Seeking information on CAPTAIN WILLIAM RAYNOR, VC who served in India during the Indian Mutiny and was awarded The Victoria Cross for action at Delhi on 11th. May 1857 while serving with the "Bengal Veteran Establishment". Recorded in the London Gazette of 18th. June 1858. Born: Plumtree, Nottinghamshire around July 1795. Buried in Ferozpore Cemetary, India. The erected tombstone reads: Beneath this tomb lie the mortal remains of Captain William Raynor, Dept. Commissary of Ordnance, who died at Ferozpore on the 13th of December 1860, aged 64 years 5 months. "Honoured and Beloved he lived - Honoured and Lamented he died". Captain Edward Rayner, CD Ret'd.
