Hello, My name is Karima and I am the new administrator of the RAYNOR-L discussion list. I am descended from Thurston RAYNOR, our earliest immigrant to America, through his son Joseph. We are, at this point, a small group - but growing. Eleven new members have joined the list during the past 24 hours. The larger our group, the more expertise and information we will have to share. We are very fortunate to have, as one of our members, a very experienced genealogist who has done extensive research on the RAYNOR family of Long Island (and surrounding area). I will not mention his/her name so as not to invade his/her privacy, but I just wanted to let you know that at least one of us is an "expert" on this subject. Please spread the word to others, with whom you might have corresponded during your search for your RAYNOR ancestors, that the list is up and running and encourage them to join us. The following URL will take you to a "welcome" page which contains all of the pertinent information regarding the subscribing, unsubscribing, participation and administration of this list. I encourage you all to take the time to visit the page and to read it. http://userweb.springnet1.com/quest/RaynorListWelcome.htm Always feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you might have. Karima

Hi - I am also on this list - I hope we can get some activity going. I have very little information about my Raynor line - I just recently found the last name to go with the first name of my 3rd great-grandmother. Here is what I have: Rushing ROGERS, b. abt 1806, probably in Anson or Union Co NC, married Mary Raynor (somethimes spelled Rayner, I'm told) b. abt 1814. Their oldest child, Margaret Jane Rogers, married David James Haney in 1854. I hope to know more about this line soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mary in SC
Hi Guys I'd forgotten that I had even subscribed to this list, it is so dormant. My Rayners start with Richard Rayner marrying Sarah Hurst in Green Ponds, Tasmania, Australia in 1833. Their daughter Elizabeth is my gg grandmother who married Richard David Russell. Is there anyone out there that is a relative, I think they are few and far between!!!! Regards Jennie Chapman Australia
I'm researching the Raner/Rayner/Rainer family in Virginia. I have traced my direct line to a James Harvey Raner who was born in Orange Co, VA in 1821. There were several Rayners around there and I don't know which one was his father. I believe his grandfather was John Rayner who fought in the Rev war. I think he had sons William, George, James, Thomas and John but I'm not sure about completely sure about any of these. I don't know who William married; at least of a couple of the boys married Gillespie girls and one married a Herron. These marriages were recorded in Albemarle Co. James Harvey next appears in the present WV area, then Pocahontas Co, VA. where in 1842 he marries Sarah Tyler born in Madison Co, VA. In the next county Braxton is a John G Rayner married to a Rachel Huffman. I'd appreciate anyone with ANY knowledge of the Virginia Rayners to contact me. Hello everyone, I'm new to this list and would like to put out a general request. I'm searching for information on my GG Grandmother Caroline Raynor's family, she was born abt. 1848 in/or around Rosehall, Ontario, and married Rev. John Scanlon, a methodist minister, in 1868/9. Doing research from the 1871 Ontario census, I've found that a vast majority of Raynor's living in Ontario lived around Rosehall (Hillier Township) in Prince Edward County, Ontario. A town history states that the town was settled by quakers and other families from Long Island during the late 1700's-early 1800's. From my understanding the Raynor family first arrived in Long Island, then spread out from there. Has anyone down research on any branches that went to Ontario, and settled in this area. I've come across reference of a Townsend Garratt Raynor born in Rosehall, Ontario born in 1863, son of a George Raynor and Edna Garratt. The interesting note was that he was a local Methodist preacher, and I was wondering if Caroline might have a connection to him, as an aunt, cousin, or sibling?, as she also married a methodist minister. Any assistance would be helpful, or if you could direct me to any relevant material that exist on the Raynor's of Ontario and/or Long Island. Thanks. -Bob Chamblee Bellevue, WA http://members.aol.com/JSMFinch/index.html
Hello, I would really appreciate some help in finding an obituary for the following: Alonzo RAYNOR Born 6 November 1843 in Manorville, Long Island, NY Died 30 September 1919 in St. Louis, MO Parents: Mary "Polly" (TERRY) and Joseph RAYNOR Wife: Celestia "Lettie" T. LINCOLN (b. 1842 in Pawlet, VT) Children: Ernest L. RAYNOR; Edna Fidelia RAYNOR; Mary Celeste RAYNOR De Witt Clinton RAYNOR (Children all born in IL) Occupation: Artist Tailor This is a bit of a mystery to me. Alonzo RAYNOR was not mentioned in his daughter's (Mary Celeste Raynor ALLISON) wedding announcement in 1902 in Carbondale, Jackson County, IL. Nor was he mentioned in his wife's obituary (Lettie T. LINCOLN RAYNOR) in 1911, Carbondale, Jackson County, IL, although he was still living. I have no documentation of a divorce and seriously doubt that there was one. It occurred to me that an obituary might have been printed in a newspaper in the Manorville, LI area, since he had family there. I would really appreciate any assistance anyone can give me in where I should look for this obituary. I don't know where he is buried either. He doesn't appear to be buried in IL with his wife. Thanks in advance for any help provided. Karima
