    1. [RAYNOR] RAYNER, Phebe d/o Isaac, Southampton, L.I., NY 1700's/1800's
    2. Steven L. Watts
    3. Hello! I recently joined this list and am just starting to research my RAYNER/RAYNOR heritage. Here is what I now know... Daniel SAYRE, born at Southampton, L.I., was called "Daniel Tertius" in a list of inhabitants of Southampton in 1698. He married Phebe, daughter of Isaac RAYNER. [Src: _SAYRE FAMILY: Lineage of Thomas Sayre A Founder of Southampton_, Theodore M. Banta; New York, NY, 1901, p.60] Elsewhere, Banta spelled her maiden name Phebe RAYNOR. If anyone can help with info on Phebe and her lineage, I would appreciate it so much. With kind regards, Steve swatts@woodland.net

    2. I have an Adelaide Raynor, m. Charles Carter on Long Island. They have several children, Frederick Carter, m. Irene Carr in McGrawville, NY on Jan 2, 1912. Frederick would be my ggrandfather, Adelaide my gggrandmother. I have a copy of their wedding book. Using the marriage date for Frederick and Irene would make Adelaide Raynor's birth date to be somewhere in the mid 1800's. They had the following children: Frederick Jesse Susan Adelaide Leroy John Nettie Alfred Howard Haven't been able to get any other connections on Adelaide. Supposed to be getting some info on Charles from a relative pretty soon. Hope this connects. Ralph Voelker Portland, Oregon

    3. Sorry if I went outside your protocol. Most lists don't want private and specific discusions clogging up their mail. Nor do I need to be buried under lots of Raynor information except for the one individual I asked about. Anyway, I did find one connection, and here is all that has transpired. My intention was to next ask him if he had any details about her surprisingly long life, and whether he is aware of fuller documentation such as an obituary. I also would be interested in seeing what he has on her husband. Paul LeValley wrote: > > Here is all I have on Sarah LeValley Raynor: > > SARAH (RAYNOR) > > b. 1833 NY > m. Charles Lewis Raynor (s. Wilma, Thanks again for such a good response. I agree with you on the John & John, Jr... I'll dig a little deeper as time permits. I ran across somebody's Moral Laws during the summer, but don't remember who wrote it. At the moment all my "stuff" (20 boxes of books +) is packed as we are moving from a trailer to a house next week... One with a room for research!! and all my books!! Keep in touch, Shirley

    3. I would like to respond to the questions raised regarding John ROSE and his son, Martyn ROSE. Do you have evidence that John Rose was born in 1619? I have his birth year as (about) 1638. He died 17 Apr 1697. John ROSE was s/o Robert and Dorothy ROSE. John ROSE's will, dated 4 May 1696, mentions his son, Martyn (Martin). John ROSE's son, Martyn, must have been born before 1686; otherwise, he would have been only 13 years old when he married Sarah HOWELL in 1699. Sarah HOWELL, d/o Richard HOWELL, b. ca 1682, Southampton, d. 1729, bur. Water Mill, L.I. Martyn and Sarah (HOWELL) ROSE's daughter, Sarah ROSE, d. June 1735. She married 1701 at Southampton, James Haines. Based on the above information, it seems logical that Martyn ROSE was s/o John ROSE. Stuart -- Stuart Howell showell@ttlc.net

    3. Dear Tom, Your suggestion is a good one for some situations. However, all queries will not fall within that format and I find that having a rule about how a subject line should be composed is intimidating to some, while others just don't want to have to bother with being sure they have everything in the correct order. However, anyone who wants to use your suggested format may certainly do so. I would suggest that if someone is changing the subject material (and the subject line no longer applies to the new material) that they definitely change the subject line. It is less confusing that way. Karima TomRaynor@aol.com wrote: > > Hi All! > > There is some GREAT information flowing here. Thanks to all. 3. > Wilma, > Thanks so much for this info. It brings up a few more questions though. John > married a Boyles and then a Clarke... Good Morning... Yes, the abrevations they used takes some getting used too.. b= birth d= death w/f= wife m or md= married do=same like we use " they used do ch=children d/o=daughter of s/o=son of frm=freeman rem=removed Plyn=Plymouth chh=church In Torrey's New England Marriages prior 1700 p613 I found this: "RAYNOR, John (1600 - 1669) & 1 w/f Anna [BOYCE/BOYSE] ( - 1647?) 12 Aug 1633, b 1625?, by 1632, Plymouth" "RAYNOR, John (1600 - 1669) & 2 w/f Frances/Elizabeth CLARK ( -1676+) by 1642? Plymouth". I would say Elizabeth's mother was her fathers first wife.. Anna BOYCE / BOYES. I can't find a father for her in Savage or Pope. > which would be the mother of Elizabeth? She married in 1641, long before >her last brother & sister were born. Seems there may be two sets of kids. Yes, I am sure he had issue with both of his wives...as you can see Torrey was also mixed up when the first marriage took place. John being born 1600 I would say he was married around 1625.. and the 2nd married abt 1642... >And is the 1642 date below when > John married F. Clarke or when she joined the Church? Probably both...she probably joined the chuch when she was married... sounds reasonable to me!! (((weak smile))) >( I have a hard time with some of these abbreviations.) I listed some of them at the top of my letter.. > And at the bottom, which of these dates is his death date? That mixes me up too... wonder if there were two John RAYNOR's father and son say...that were pastors of the church... wait a sec... it says, Mr. John RAYNOR, 'TEACHER' of Dover Chruch d 21 (2) 1669.. Torrey has his death date as 1669...ok... that is understandable..that is the death date of our John b 1600... We know he had a son John jr.. who must be the Mr. J.R. listed below.. see what you think.. Probably by the time his son John jr became pastor of the church, John sr steped down and became the teacher of said church??????? Then Pope says, "Mr. J. R. Pastor of the do d 21 (10) 1676".. which means "Mr. J. R. Pastor of the Dover Church died 21 (10) 1676" there Pope used the 'do' which means ditto.. Torrey on page 613 had another JOHN RAYNOR ..says of him: "RAYNER, John ( -1675/6 , 1676) & Judith QUINCY (1655-1679/80) ca 1673: Plymouth" So... this last John was the pastor..and he is the one that died 1676... do you agree? > I'm also looking for a copy of the letter on Moral Laws. Maybe a will? If you find it would you send it to me? Thank you and if you find my Thurston is any relation to said John I would appreciate it if you or someone would let me know... It is so hard hanging out here all by your self!! >Thanks again for all the help you have given to everyone. You are most welcome and hope I can do more..I am kinda floundering here myself...wishing they kept better records on some of these ancestors.. where some records are wonderful...but then everone wasn't as important as others and it seems that the 'others' were the ones that had better records kept on them... 1. [RAYNOR] Proposal For a Standard Subject Line
    2. Hi All! There is some GREAT information flowing here. Thanks to all. However, sometimes it's hard to know which threads I'm interested in, and which I'm not following. How about this suggestion: Let's all format our "SUBJECT" lines as follows: Surname, First name (if any), State/County/Province/Country, Era (date or approximate date) Followed by any other details you'd like to include. For example: Raynor, Thurston & Elizabeth, Suffolk England, 1500s - Anyone know parents? or: Dotson, Wise Co., VA, 1700s - Seeking any information on this line This way, you'll know right away if there is information you can help with, or it's a line you are interested in following. I'm afraid we are going to lose subscribers to "information overload" if we don't do something. Of course, you are free to follow this standard, ignore it, or post a better suggestion. My hope is that we will all agree on a format that works for our group, and newcomers will see us using it, understand the value in doing so, and keep it going. Thanks again! - Tom

    1. [RAYNOR] Thurston Raynor
    2. Stuart Howell
    3. Thurston Raynor was baptized 21 Sep 1593 in Elmsett, County of Suffolk, England. By 13 Apr 1620, he had married Elizabeth _____, who was born in 1598. Thurston, his wife, Elizabeth, and their children, Thurston, 13, Joseph, 11, Elizabeth, 9, Sarah, 7, and Lydia, 1, and Thurston's nephew, Edward, 10, immigrated to America, departing from Ipswich, England in April 1634 aboard the ship, ELIZABETH, and landing in Boston in july of that year. Thurston and his family initially lived in Watertown, Massachusetts Bay Colony, and then, in 1636, went to Wethersfield, Connecticut. Thurston and his family left Wethersfield in 1641 to found a village at Stamford, Connecticut. In 1644, Thurston and his family corssed Long Island Sound and established a colony at hempstead, long Island. Later, sometime between 1646 and 1649, Thurston and his family settled in the young village of Southampton, on eastern Long Island. There is no known relationship between Thurston Raynor, who was from Elmsett, County of Suffolk, England, and Rev. John Rayner, who was from the County of York. Thurston Raynor and his family were the first Raynors to come to America. Stuart -- Stuart Howell showell@ttlc.net

Get your Freepages account today: > http://cgi.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/acctform.cgi Reply to Wilma Haynes questions regarding Thurston Raynor's relationship to Rev. John Rayner: Whereas Rev. John Rayner came from York County, Thurston Raynor, b. ca 1593, resided in Elmsett, County of Suffolk, England, and left Ipswich, England on the ship, ELIZABETH, in April 1634 with his wife, Elizabeth, five children, and nephew, Edward Raynor. They landed in Boston in July 1634 (not 1635) and settled in Watertown, Massachusetts Bay Colony. Thurston and his family went from Watertown, MA to Wethersfield, CT, then to what is now Stamford, CT, then across Long Island Sound to Hempstead, and eventually (between 1646 and 1649), settled in Southampton, L.I.
