The following message is from: ron raynor <ron.raynor@sympatico.ca> ================================================= Of all the Raynor's I have seen on the web, I have yet to hook-up with one that connects with my forebears. I am posting my RAYNOR information in hope someone else is researching this family in the Anson/Union Co area of North Carolina. Sue - I apologize for referring to Franklin Raynor as your grandfather; I should have referred to him as your great grandfather. Sorry. Stuart -- Stuart P. Howell showell@ttlc.net
Hi Sue - Thanks for the additional information. I'm afraid the Franklin Raynor I thought might be your grandfather could not be, as he had no brothers, Edgar and Albert; he did, however, have a brother, Clinton, but seven other siblings, also. That Franklin's father was Joseph, b. 1830, and a descendant of Edward Raynor of Hempstead, L.I. I have information on several other Franklin Raynors, but none fits the date of your grandfather's birth. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, but I shall keep searching, Sue. Stuart -- Stuart P. Does anyone know how I can contact for rersearch for the Highland Falls area of NY near West Point. I had family there and I'm hoping it would provide me more clues. Thanks, Bob Raynor "Raynor on Guam" boray@ite.net
Ok, lets see if the server knows me now. Marilyn Angelo mangelo@binghamton.edu
I don't know why Marilyn's message (below) didn't make it directly to the list. It came only to me and so I am sending it to the list. BTW, the first eight generations of Dr. Stuart Howell's "Raynors of Ketchaponack" (A genealogy of the descendants of Jonathan Raynor, grandson of Thurston Raynor of Southampton, Long Island, NY) have been uploaded to the Raynor Family Web Site which can be accessed at the following URL. We all thank Dr. Howell for his generosity in sharing his many years of research with us. http://userweb.springnet1.com/quest/Raynor.htm Karima ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Subject: Re: Mulford T. Raynor!!!!! Date: Sat, 6 May 2000 16:54:48 -0700 From: Marilyn Angelo <mangelo@binghamton.edu> To: RAYNOR-L@rootsweb.com, Mathn2@aol.com Cousin! I'm descended from Mulford T. Raynor of Brooklyn too. He is one of the Raynors of Ketchaponack found in Stuart Payne Howell's book. I think the Stuart has put his book on the web so you can find Mulford's ancestry back to Jonathan, the grandson of Thurston Raynor and his second wife, Martha Lum. I'm descended from Mulford T. Raynor and Anne Conwell Pearsall through their son Charles. Charles married Martha Washington Fisher. Their son, Townsend Raynor married Luranna Jimmerson. Townsend and Luranna were my great grandparents. Where do you fit in to the family? Thank you for this list of death certificates. My great aunt looked for many years for Mulford's death certificate. I used to listen to her talk and that got me interested in genealogy. Marilyn Angelo mangelo@binghamton.edu
Here is a list of Raynor deaths that are registered in Brooklyn from 1883-1920. You will find that many of the death certificates have a wealth of information that includes date and place of birth, addresses, father & mother names and places of birth, cause of death, place of burial, undertaker, occupation & employer, and years resided in Brooklyn. Hi, Bill - Now, to the questions in your 1 May email message: 1. Yes, I did compile a revision in 1998 of THE RAYNORS OF KETCHAPONACK, because I had collected so much additional information since the 2nd edition was published in 1994. The 1998 version has about 3500 direct descendants of Jonathan-3 Raynor. I have hard copies available for the cost to me of copying and mailing -$15. It is an 8 1/2" x 11" spiral-bound, paperback of 270 pages. 2. Yes, Bill, you are in the 1998 edition,on page 69. 3. I don't know Tryphenia Fordham's birthdate, but I do have her father as Stephen Fordham of L.I. Thanks for the information that her daughter, Tryphena Raynor, was married by her uncle, Rev. Lemuel Fordham; I didn't have that. 4. I don't know David-4 Raynor's date and place of death, or when he moved to New Jersey. My information about David-4 Raynor and his son, Jonathan-5 Raynor came from several sources: George Rogers Howell's, THE EARLY HISTORY OF SOUTHAMPTON, , L. I., NEW YORK (1887); records of the First Presbyterian Church of Morristown, New Jersey; records of the Presbyterian Church of Whippany, New Jersey; Morris County (NJ) deeds; DAR cemetery records; Rateables List for Morris Township, Morris County, NJ; Freeholders List for Menham township, Morris County, NJ; Military records in the National Archives, Washington, D.C.; Will of Jonathan Raynor, Jr. (1686-1741), Lib. XIV, 46, New York Wills, 31 Jan 1740/1-7 April 1741; 1790 U. S. Census; correspondence with Gerald Van Sise Raynor, Genealogist par excellence of the Raynor Family Association, Marlene Farrell of Elgin, IL, Rev. Larry Jacobson of Tulsa, OK, Donna Jakobsson of Vienna, VA, Marion Carter of Aurora, IL, and Mrs. Harold (Grace) Raynor of Plainfield, NJ. 5. Jonathan-2 Raynor was b. in Southampton, L.I., but I do not know the exact date. His wife was Sarah Pierson, d/o Henry-1 Pierson. That's the best I can do, Bill. There are still a lot of question marks. Best regards, Stuart -- Stuart P. Howell showell@ttlc.net
Hello Raynor list! My ancestry is back to Tryphena RAYNOR (1790-1859) d/o Jonathan & Tryphena (Fordham) RAYNOR. She m. Joshua SECOR and they settled in Greene Co. IL. Jonathan was b. c.1743 in Morristown, NJ, it seems and d. 1822 in Greene Co. PA, was m. 1771 to Tryphena FORDHAM b. ? who d. 1828 while living with family in Mt. Vermon, OH. And the father of Jonathan was David RAYNOR who was a twin b. 1705/6 to Jonathan & Irene (HERRICK) RAYNOR. My added thanks to Stuart Howell who provided me with the information about David and his own ancestry back to Thurston RAYNOR, the original imigrant locating in Southampton, L.I. I have a copy of his book "The Raynors of Ketchaponack." In this he says that Jonathan (1681-1741) was the first white settler of this town now called Westhampton. But I didn't know there was a 1998 update and on the web...thanks! I wonder if I'm in it! (I'll check of course). A few details I need more on: The FORDHAM family, some of whom also came to NJ from NY...Joshua SECOR and Tryphena RAYNOR were m. in Morristown by her uncle, Rev. Lemuel FORDHAM. Don't have Tryphena's birthdate nor parentage, possible father was Stephen. David RAYNOR's date & place of death...and when did he move to NJ. What is Mr. Howell's source of info about him? More info about Jonathan RAYNOR the father of the aformentioned Jonathan. When exactly was he born betw. 1646-61 and where. And was his wife indeed Sarah PIERSON d/o Henry PIERSON? Enough!
