I am one of the AL Ratliff folks. Our Mary Jelillie RATLIFF was recorded in her marriage record (to John Melton CANANT) in Cullman Co as "RACKLIFF". However, her marriage bond was signed by George RATLIFF and James A RATLIFF. They also witnessed her marriage certificate. Obviously her name was RATLIFF. Many times, whoever recorded the marriage documents spelled the name incorrectly. We are also searching for Mary's parents. There is no indication if one of the George's or James was a father. She also had brothers by those names. We have the list of siblings but no one ever wrote down her parent's names. We believe that she is one of the RATLIFFs who populated central AL (particularly Birmingham area and Cullman area) but we have no proof. I do not have a Sarah Frances Lilly Mae. Hope you find your Ratliffs. I am beginning to think ours are from outer space!! My Gggrandmother was Sarah Francis Lillie Mae Ratleft (spelling changes). I do not have a birthdate. She married George Allen Edwards b. 1862 in New Market, Madison Co. Alabama. My ggrandfather Lummie Lee Edwards was born 1891in Elkmont Alabama. Fannie (as she was called) went by the name of Reed. Her father unknown Ratliff died when she was young. Her mother remarried to unknown Reed. Do you have any Ratliffs in Alabama? Have you noticed any naming trends simular to my gggrandmother? Thanks for taking time to read this. >>
