MainSeulth, You have acquired many things on the Ratliff families? May I ask if you have run across a John Ratliff born abt 1750 -60 in VA, his son Job(e) married an Agnes and one of their children (my gr gr grand father) was named Guilford Ratliff, I suspect for the Battle of Guilford in S.C.. I do not know fore sure, but I think that maybe they were in S.C. on their way to either ILL, or around on to Arkansas. By the way, John had a son William, but I will have to look to see if I actually have any information on him. I am pretty sure this William was born in Virginia. This is pretty far fetched but... on GenForum in the Ratliff surname area there is a FYI posting and it lists many of the Ratliffs who were sent here on English prison ships if my memory serves me correctly. From some of my research on my father's side, being on one of those ships did not necessarily imply a person was a criminal. I think possibly England just chose to rid itself of folks that had different ideas or were poor, or any number of other reasons finding some minor crime against them to use as an excuse to send them to America. Thank you for any information and thank you too for keeping the living out of the data bases.. I never mind if my name is mentioned as a descendant, but get real antsy when dates are applied. I think we were at one time able to trust those who read the Genealogy lists because most were family looking into family history, now unfortunately the information can be used against us in devastating ways.
