Has any of you claimed "ownership" of a Richard Ratliff who in 1750 in Queen Anne's County, Maryland, married a Mary Newton? If so, please let me know. That way, I will no longer wonder whether he was the father of my gggg grandfather (also Richard Ratliff) who died in Anson County, NC, ca1811. There are SO many Richard Rat(c)liffs in colonial America that it has been a matter of finding and eliminating one after the other in an effort to narrow the search. I have sought assistance from as many Newton sources as I can find, and none knows of any in Maryland, yet the marriage of Richard and Mary is a matter of record. Some say her father was a John Newton. Some also say that Richard and Mary had a son in 1751 whom they named Richard. A son so named and born ca1751 could well have been the same man who was my gggggrandfather.
