Kelly, I've been studying my notes about the many James Ratliffs in our line. I now think you are right. the James Ratliff I have listed for Jeremiah's son must be your James Marion Ratliff. I show he was born in 1838 and inlisted in the 19th Ala. Inf. You may be able to find pension information on him. He is listed as a 21 year old living with Jeremiah, his wife and two younger children in the 1860 Jefferson Co. census. The 1870 Jefferson Co. census lists the two younger kids, Abram and Sarah Ratliff living with the W. D. Shamley (Chambley?) family, his wife and six kids. No sign of James there. My Civil War records list him as J. W. Ratliff born 1838, died 1912. He joined Co. C of the 19th Al. Inf. in Jefferson Co. in August 1861. He was wounded at the Battle Of Atlanta where he was also wounded. Let me know what you have on him and I will add it to OUR TREE. Welcome to the family.
