Dan: I have an Alexander Ratliff that was born in Barren County Kentucky approximately 1812 (?). His parents were William and Margaret Ratliff and he was the brother to my ancestor, James Ratliff. This Alexander moved to Illinois, the Cass County area, where he was located in the 1840 census with a male under 10 and female about his age. From here I know nothing about him. I am also researching the Ratliff (Ratcliffe) line in West Virginia. I would be interested in trading information. I am researching Sarah Ratcliffe, daughter of John Ratcliffe who was born around what is now Cabwaylingo State Park along Route 52 south of Huntington West Va. She married John Martin and moved to Ironton, Ohio. I always heard that her mother was a full blooded Indian, possibly Cree or Creek. Hi, I am also from the Robert &Mary Touchstone line. I descend from their son Silas. I have some information on Emanuel that a man named David Ratliff sent me. He told me this is his direct line. It lists Emanuel as being born about 1634 in England and died after 1700 in Charles County, Maryland. Also says he married Anne It lists Mullenex as being their son born about 1665 and died before 1735 but marriage is unknown. It says Mullenen had the following children Charles, John, Joseph, Ulindor, Mary and Joshua. The only person with listed descendants is Joshua born 1701 died 1737. I would love this information also, as I am serching for Ratliff family books and information. One book I can suggest is one that recently purchased, it is called "The Decendants of John Ratliff and Charlotte White 1765-1997" by author, Larry Ratliff. I must say that it is PACKED full of information on this specific line. This is my Ratliff family, but not my direct line, as I come down from another brother of this family. I am serching for information on a Mollonex/Mullenex and/or a Emanuel Ratliff (of which Mollonex and Emanuel were father son). If anyone knows anything about these names, please let me know... I made a little tiny mistake. The grandchildren living with James and Amanda Ratliff were Charles K, Georgia M. and Allen D. I typed Allen K. before by mistake.

Let me clear up some confusion. James Ratcliff b. May 1838 in Virginia (the 1900 Beaver Pond District, Mercer County, WV. census states that both his parents were born in Virginia) married Elizabeth b. May 1842 in Va. married in or around 1865. (same census states her parents were also born in VA) Their children are listed as: William L. (son), Lewis B. (son), Lorisa A. (it looks like it says that. The name isn't real clear) (daughter) .James and Elizabeth had 9 children. These are the only ones living at their household at this census time. The census states that one child had died. James F. Ratliff b. Dec 1840 in Virginia (the 1900 Beaver Pond District, Mercer County, WV. census states that both his parents were born in Virginia) married Amanda Elizabeth (Surface) b.May 1846 in WV. married in or around 1840. (same census states her parents were born in VA) Their only child living with them at that time was Ballard Hezikiah b. June 1888 in WV. Their grandchildren listed as living with them were: Charles K., Gorigia M. and Allen K. The census states that Amanda's father was living there also. He was George Washington Surface b. March 1808 and was a widow. James and Amanda are listed as having 11 children with 9 living at the time of this census. I am related to the second James Ratliff. I have the social security application for Ballard Hezekiah Ratliff that gives his parents as James Ratliff and Elizabeth Surface. Ballard H. is my greatgrandpa. I have been doing research on this line for years and have also come upon this confusion myself and I want to help everyone else on it. Part of the confusion is that Amanda's middle name is Elizabeth and she goes by both. The other part is that these 2 James lived in the same district.

Could you tell me what information you have on this James Ratliff. My Great Great grandfather was James Ratliff and he was buried at Matoaka, Mercer County, WV his wifes name was Amanda Elizabeth. But I don not have a Walter as a son. Thanks Linda Ratliff Miller
