In my previous post I forgot to mention that James was also captured during the Battle Of Atlanta. Good Luck, Dean
Dean - thank you for sharing the civil war information. I will look forward to researching there. I just wanted to share a little more on how I made the connection. 1850 Blount Co census Jeremiah Ratliff with wife Annis children Maryan, Jms (age 12), Sarah, NN NS?, Joshua 1860 Jefferson Co census (as you have) Jeremiah Ratliff with wife Annis children James(age 21), Sarah, Abram listed as residing on Forks Road Prcnt also listed on Forks Road Prcnt is a Mary Overton living with head of house June Perry This is why I thought this James of Jeremiah married this Mary. (Which is listed as the parents of John Ratliff - brother to my ggrandfather.) 1880 Monroe Co Smithville Prcnt Mississippi Jim Ratliff (age 40) b ala Mary wife William son Merica daugh Jno son This is the only census I have found that lists my William with his parents. All of the other ages in this census match too! I can type this up more clearly if interested. Just tickled to discuss it! Thanks again, Kelly
Kelly, I've been studying my notes about the many James Ratliffs in our line. I now think you are right. the James Ratliff I have listed for Jeremiah's son must be your James Marion Ratliff. I show he was born in 1838 and inlisted in the 19th Ala. Inf. You may be able to find pension information on him. He is listed as a 21 year old living with Jeremiah, his wife and two younger children in the 1860 Jefferson Co. census. The 1870 Jefferson Co. census lists the two younger kids, Abram and Sarah Ratliff living with the W. D. Shamley (Chambley?) family, his wife and six kids. No sign of James there. My Civil War records list him as J. W. Ratliff born 1838, died 1912. He joined Co. C of the 19th Al. Inf. in Jefferson Co. in August 1861. He was wounded at the Battle Of Atlanta where he was also wounded. Let me know what you have on him and I will add it to OUR TREE. Welcome to the family. You might check out if he received a pension and where was it paid. Dean
My James Warren Ratliff was married to Arminda Warren in 1881. I also see your James Warren Rartliff mentioned but I have not been able to place him in my line. I visited an abandoned Cemetery in Priceville Al. containing many Ratliffs. I understand part of this family moved on to Miss. Dean
My great grandfather was Joshua Wilson Ratliff born 18 Jan. 1849 in Montgomery Co., Ky. to William Ratcliff and Maryann "Polly" Lawson. He married Mary ann "Polly" Collinsworth. They were in Williamson Co., Texas when their 8th child, a son named Jim Anderson Ratliff was born 31 July 1889. Their 3rd child, Count Zenzendorf Ratliff was my grandfather. He was born in Kentucky 16 March 1876. William was the last one with the "c" in his name, and the ladies were both named Mary Ann and called "Polly" I would love to hear from any others related to this branch of the Ratcliff/Ratliff family, for our mutual benefit. Thank you, Geneio@aol.com
I am searching for Joshua Ratliff b. abt. 1818 in Mississippi. His wife was born in Alabama, I do not know her name, yet. I believe that they had the following children: Wesley Whitfield b. 1844, Sam, Jess and Martha. They may have had more children. I do know that Wesley was born in Mississippi. Wesley's wife Mary was born in Alabama and so were both her parents. Wesley and his wife Mary had the following children: Leroy b. 1871, Beatrice E., Jessie C., Lucille, Joseph M., James William, Reagan and Clay. Most, if not all of Wesley and Mary's children were born in Texas, probably in Houston County. I am hoping someone out there will be able to shed some light on a few of these Ratliff's! Thank you in advance, Betsy
I have relatives in Williamson County. Which ones are you looking for? Dean - I also found the James Warren Ratliff that you spoke of. But if he was born in 1860 then he can't be the James Warren Ratliff that married Mary A Perry Overton in 1866 Jefferson Co Ala. I would love it if you (or refer me to someone) that could be my 'devil's advocate' on this line. I feel that I am on the correct track. My grandfather's father was William Henry Ratliff from the Tishomingo Co, Miss area and William had a brother - John. I purchased John's SSDI application. This John's parent's were James Warren Ratliff and Mary A Overton. Thanks for any conversation and will share what I have! I am starved for someone to corresponde with over this line! Kelly
Would anyone have any information on Luke Ratliff born abt: 1790 in Chambers County, AL married to a Polly Cook or Cutts? Together they had 3 children Joseph, Allen and Rebecca. Any information is appreciated. Thanks, Delane
I show he and his wife to be born in S.C. Dean Ratliff
Kelly, I have it a little bit different. Young Jeremiah did have a son named James but I know nothing further about him other than he was born in1838 and died in 1912. Young Jeremiah had a brother named Abraham B. Ratliff 1821-1864. He had a son named James Warren Ratliff 1860-1918. He had 14 children by two wives. One was named William Luther Ratliff 1884-1889. I can find no William Henry Ratliff. I do show two Henry Ratliffs. Joshua's line was given to me by other researchers. My line is through his brother John A. Ratliff. Hang in there. It sure does get confusing. Your data may be more accurate than what I have been given. Good Luck, Dean

Dean, I am taking this opportunity to let you know that I made the connection from myself to your line! I am so excited to finally belong to a line. The younger Jeremiah (son of Joshua) was the father of James Warren Ratliff. One of James' children was William Henry Ratliff who is my ggrandfather. I can share more if you want. Just taking a brief moment to introduce myself. Kelly Ratliff Culpepper
Would like to contact descendents of Kentucky Ratliffs who went to Williamson County Texas abt 1890. Thank you. Geneio@aol.com
Trey, let us know where you are from. There are several Ratliff groups. My group is from Alabama. Dean Ratliff
