    1. Re: [RATLIFF] List has been very helpful, BUT . . .
    2. Barry, I agree with you. One never knows what connection there may be with another line. Our Luke Ratliff falls into all this someplace. As all of us know, we each have a father and mother. Why Luke is such a mystery is beyond me. Where does the answer lie? Will we ever find out who our Luke Ratliff really is? Or maybe we are searching incorrectly, perhaps we should be searching for Redden Luke Ratliff. Although, I have searched somewhat with the Redden name I haven't come up with anything, I am not even sure that Lukes first name was Redden. Mysteries, mysteries don't you just love them? Have you looked in Chambers County, AL for anything on the Ratliffs? I understand that is where Luke was born. I haven't found anything there on the limited searching I have done. Just another avenue. Delane

    1. [RATLIFF] List has been very helpful, BUT . . .
    2. Barry Wetherington
    3. Hi Ratliff-Ls, I'm from the Luke/Redding/ Line and the List has been very helpful for us. And please keep it working. BUT, there is a practice I don't yet comprehend. What is the value of being on this list, and then privately emailing a single other person some portion of a Ratliff family Tree? I'm not trying to criticize, just understand. The Archives of our Lists have been very helpful to my family, enabling us to find other connecting lines just by searching the Archives of these Lists, such as the Ratliff-L Archives: (at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/r/ratliff.html) A private emailing could deprive someone who might be looking for the same family that is being discussed privately, perhaps even years from now. It may be, probably is, a feeling that a poster feels that his or her line or information isn't important enough to the rest of us to post, or possibly don't want to clutter the List. It has been many years since anyone at RootsWeb has suggested ways to save space on the servers. These new servers have much space avail. I would respectfully like to suggest that we consider any Ratliff family Gen, other than living persons, as potentially helpful to someone in our 'family', and post it. If there is a policy to the contrary, I've never heard about it for the 13 or so RootsWeb surname Lists I host. I'm sure it is not selfishness that is prompting this - rather an attempt to not 'bother' the rest of us w/what seems like a limited interest post. Please, I would very much to see all Ratliff posts, other than living persons, so we could analyze potential connections to 'our' Ratliffs. Thanks for your attention, Barry >From: toni8466@yahoo.com >Reply-To: RATLIFF-L@rootsweb.com >To: RATLIFF-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [RATLIFF] Re: Mariah Ratliff >Date: 9 May 2002 16:07:03 -0600 > >This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > >Surnames: Ratliff, Kuykendall, >Classification: Query > >Message Board URL: > >http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RGCBAEB/900.1 > >Message Board Post: > >Gina, >I also have information about Mariah Ratliff and all of her marriages. I have William Keene b) abt 1843 married to Nancy Ratliff b) abt 1850, I show them having 14 children (Jacob, Louise, Harvey Jessee, Barbara, Charles "Charlie" E, William, John H, Patty Caroline, Robert O, Marenda A, Louisa, Elizabeth, Shadrack E, Bessie L). I have some dates on these if you want them. The George (William) that you refer to in your message that was married to Louise E Ratliff I believe is actually George Whitten Keen. I have George Whitten Keen married to Mary Elizabeth Meadows on 31 Jan 1895 in Buchanan Co, VA (I have a copy of this marriage license-this marriage license states that George was the son of Jas L and Letitia Keen). I believe that this is James Logan Keene and Lutissa "Luticia" Vandyke. George and Mary had 8 children. Then George married Louise E Ratliff on 5 Nov 1903 in Buchanan Co, VA. If any of this sounds familiar please feel free to email me privately.! Thanks, Vicky

Nancy was born in 1850 and married a William Keen. They had 12 children with George (W)illiam Keen being born January 1873 in Buchanan County, Va. Most likely Grundy. George W married two times and his 2nd wife was Louise E. Ratliff. Her parents were Julius Ratliff and Malinda Looney. Georges 1st wife was Mary E. ????. My records of the children are not figuring in correctly with the two marriages but shows that George fathered 6 children, Oliver, Josie, Lilburn, Eva, Virginia and James. If any of this fits in with your line then we are related through Nancy born in 1850. Let me know. Jimmy
