He was born in the State of Arkansas and had lived in Texas for 67 years with a total of those in Ridge, Texas being 26 years. Occupation was farming. and he states that he served from 1862 until the end of the war. He was in Company E. but did not remember the number of the regiment. Cavalry. His witnesses with Affidavits were: J.R. Vestal and J.P. Holcomb JR. "Adolphis" Vestal (I wonder if his initials are J. He had known Jobe from the fall of 1862 where they met in the Army. After Job's death his widow reapplied on Jan. 14, 1916. She was in Mills County, with post office as Gold, hum.. reading it.. Goldthwaite? someone help??? her pension was allowed on from the date Dec. 1, 1916 She states that she was married to Jobe M. RATLIFF on the 5th day of 1863 in Bell County, Texas. Her husband's pension number was 24224 and hers is 33645. The death of her husband was on Dec. 16, 1916 and she stated that he was enlisted for 4 years, in the Cavalry. Her witnesses with Affidavit were L.E. Patterson and F.M. Long The papers list that she S. F. Mrs. Margie Etheridge (if I am reading the writing correctly) and that statement was signed by J. W. RATLIFF, her son. The undertaker was J. H. Randolph & co. Of Mullin, Texas. She died of Apoplexy per Dr. R. H. Jones of Mullin, Texas.

My father, George's son, knows that he has half brothers fathered by George Nelson named Stanley, Nelson and Oscar, and that there may have been other half siblings. George N. Ratliff and Rhoda Sexton may have been married at Portsmouth, Ohio or at Welch WV, between 1910 and 1914. Their children: Georgia Ellen Ratliff, born 1914, Portsmouth, OH Irene Valier Ratliff, born 10 Sep 1915, Bartley, WV, died about 1936 - 1937. Woodrow Wilson Ratcliff Charles E. Ratcliff, born 14 Apr 1920 Living Ratliff James Arthur Ratliff, born 11 Apr 1922 Living Ratliff Living Ratliff George Nelson Ratliff may have been born in Virginia (perhaps Smith County or Wythe County) about 1879 - 1880. His known siblings were Clay S. Ratliff, Thomas D. Ratliff, John F. Ratliff, and sister Mrs. Frank Scott. An obituary, found in my Aunt Georgia's scrapbook, of Clay S. Ratliff indicates that his and, I assume, George Nelson's father was James Smith Ratliff. The obituary says that Clay S. was born in Olympia, VA. George Nelson Ratliff died in a coal mining accident at the Fall River Mine, close to Roderfield, WV, on 9 Nov 1928. I would like to hear what you have learned about our mutual ancestors. I'm happy to share with you what I know and learn. Please write to me at red4stone@centurytel.net. John Ratliff

    3. Hi Delane, We have corresponded before I think. Aren't you on our My Family Site? If not would you like to be. I have no idea?? So far we have been unable to connect Joseph to any parents. His birth date and place seem to vary according to the census records we have found later. Joseph and Sarah Barrentine Ratliff had the following children: William H., Margaret, George, James Pinkney, Greenberry, Martha and Joseph. All born in Miss. except Joseph b. Louisiana. My husband Jim descend from Joseph Ratliff and another marriage to Elizabeth Gibson, through their son Jesse Robert Ratliff. Have we exchanged generation reports on our Ratliff line. I do have further info down but nothing I can connect to before Joseph. Because the Elijah Ratliff I have was born in August, 1836 and died Nov. 10, 1916, I tend to think it must be the same person as your wife's Alonzo Elijah Ratliff. The dates are uncanny. My records show, however, that Elijah was born in Goliad, TX and was a Citizen of the Republic of Texas (according to my mother-in-law, who has a picture of his gravestone in Llano). They also have a portrait of him and his wife, Lucinda Jane Willbern, in their living room. But he didn't marry Lucinda until Sept. 1, 1868, when he was about 32 years old. Elijah and Lucinda had 9 children, Walter Lee, Mae, Affie, Alfred, Nancy Jane, John D., Louella, Alonzo ("Lon"), and York. Because one of his children is named Alonzo makes me wonder again if there is a connection. > > If Elijah was the father of Calvin Taylor Ratliff, born 1855 when Elijah was about 19 years old, maybe he had a previous wife? I don't have anything about where he was before he married Lucinda, so he might have had another family in MS ... who knows? My in-laws don't know of any stories in the family about his being married to someone else. Any clue as to who Calvin's mother was or whether he had siblings? > > What are your thoughts? Also, I found an ancestral record of a William Henry Ratliff married to a Sarah Elizabeth Light (rather than Price) on the Latter-Day Saints website, which you probably already know about. Same birth and death dates and locations as you have for both. > > Anyway, the more I look at this stuff, the more questions I have....
