    3. Carolyn, Joseph Ratliff, the one you mentioned born 1835, is my gr grand daddy. And yes he is the son of Guilford and Mahala Ratliff. Joseph ( b.1835) Ratliff married Frances Harrell Their children, The first possibly being illegit. and maybe why I can find nothing on him but know he existed as he was my mother's uncle. *Lee Ratliff (Lee may have been a middle name though?) went to Cripple Creek, Colo. *Louisa Ratliff called LU, b. Jan 18, 1859... she too just fell under the wire to be legitimate and from the date I had of Joseph and Frances's marriage, Frances was pregnant prior to her marriage. *Mary is next, and Mary was never able to have children, but she raised her brother Thompson's daughter, Vera. *Tom (Thompson) Ratliff (Cattleman, then opened a gambling casino and Saloon with my grand dad in Woodward,Oklahoma. Wife died in childbirth leaving Vera with Mary for care. Tom at some point went to New Mexico, and in a roping accident was killed). *George Ratliff (he had at least a son and a daughter. The Daughter was Frances and both were attending college in Ok City, Ok. in 1926-27 as was my Aunt Thelma Ratliff) *Sam (Samuel, Sampson) Ratliff. Ma said he had 2 or 3 boys but we did not associate after his mother in law who may have been suffering from Alzheimer was found standing over Thelma's crib with a large butcher knife in a threatening manner, Grand dad was afraid she may be dangerous and I guess he and Sam had irreparable words about it. *JOSEPH Ratliff, grand dad was born between 1874 and 1877 I have documentation for several dates as he left home at age 11, after his mother's death and father's remarriage. The SS department settled on 1875 for General purposes. He married Elsie Rogers, in Woodward, Oklahoma. (If I could discover Frances date of death I could give a better estimate of Joe's birthdate as he was 8 when she died). *Andrew Ratliff was the youngest, and we never knew what he died of as grand dad did not say. I have wondered if Frances died giving birth to Andrew and he died shortly afterwards ??? I only know he died young, that was all grand dad would say. Now there seemed to have been one more, but my mother's memory was getting bad and for the life of her she could not remember the name. I think it may have been the step daughter. When Frances died, my grand dad Joseph re-married to a woman who had a daughter. I do not know the woman's name, or when they supposedly married. Any, help you may offer would be greatly appreciated. You have a few names in the list I have not seen before. Do you have any documentation that you may be willing to share, or Photos. A flood took the only one we had of Frances. 3. This is my first posting to the Radcliffe page so bear with me. James Radcliffe was born about 1859 in England, story is that he came to the US around 1881, and at one time had been a guard at the palace. On a slip of paper is written South Cumberland, England and one of the older relatives mentioned Worchestershire, England. Story also is that he came to US with either two cousins or brothers. In my posession I have a funeral card for a William Ratcliff 12 Milton Street, being buried at the Hanley Cemetery. Aged 44 died 1904 Dont know who this would happen to be. Even where the place is. I have James Radcliffe's naturalization papers where I guess it was filed in Westmoreland County, Pa. He basically settle in Brownsville, Pa. He was married to a Sara Cady and they had 8 children. John Edward Radcliffe 1884-1945 James Radcliffe 1886- went to Utah ???????? William Charles Radcliffe 1888-1966 (my grampa) Rose Radcliffe 1891-1973 Mary Radcliffe 1892-1892 Albert Radcliffe 1893-1959 Lewis Radcliffe 1898-1923 Francis Radcliffe 1901-? Looking for any information on James Jr. cause we dont know whatever happened to him. Have a little on the rest of them but would like to find out on any of their children, and so on. I do have pictures of James, Sara and the boys as adults. Can anybody tell me the step to try and find out about the part in England, I have a cousin there now that said to see what I can find to do and she will try and look into it over there. Thanks, Beth

    1. Re: [RATLIFF-L] Thompson Ratliff VA/IL/AR/TX
    2. Carrolyn: I have been corresponding with Kelly for some time. We have never been able to hook our Ratliffs up but there are so many coincidences. My great grandfather was Joshua Wilson Ratliff. He was born in Montgomery County Ky in 1849, son of William Ratcliff and Mary Ann "Polly" Lawson. Joshua Wilson married Maryann "Polly" Collinsworth. ( Yep, both were Mary anns, called Polly, no error). I don't know exactly when they came to Texas, but they had 10 children. #7, a female, Rhoda Hiner Ratliff was born in Kentucky in 1885. #8, a son, Jim Anderson Ratliff, was born in Williamson Co., Texas July 1889. Interesting thing is that on 26 Mar 1911, he married laura Brock. So we have to assume that the family came to Williamson Co between May 1885 and July 1889. A cousin sent me some notes that my grandfather, Count Ratliff, son of Joshua Wilson, had when he died. I don't know why he had so much Brock data. It sort of starts in mid-sentence and I am not sure who he is talking about but he has written at the top of the page: an orphan no bro or sister John Hill Brock( random jottings, John Hill Brock is not necessarily the orphan he is talking about. ). Father of George F. Brock Sr. was of Scottish descent. His mother's parents came from Ireland, named Lloyd. Came to U.S.A. and settled in N. Car. There is more about these Brocks if this means anything to you. He mentions a William Riley Brock and somebody who went to Mississippi. I can type up the rest for you if you think it is your Brocks. Please let me know if you have heard of this Ratliff family. Thank you. Billie Ratliff Staggs

I would love to have some info from you. I have all these generations listed and would be happy to send you a copy but Juno won't take attachments. Do you want this info? Who is Jemima Gee. I would like to know about the diary you mentioned. I have been in touch with several other Ratliff cousins too. I look forward to hearing from you. Carollyn

    3. Arkansas Ratliff Ancestors, My Ratliff family as best as I can tell came from Van Buren (that is what my grand father (Joseph) said, but his sister (Louisa) said Louisiana, too?) and Crawford County, Arkansas which I have found mentioned in my gr grandfather's Civil War pension records. They migrated from Arkansas to Texas, then some on to Oklahoma, Colorado, and my main line (my grand dad, my Mom and her sisters) eventually into Washington State in the 1940's. I would be interested in knowing your line to see if it ties in with mine. Does anyone know anything about these Radcliffes and where they came from? *********************************************************************** I can't help with you with these specific folks but you seem to possibly be related to the same Ratcliffe family as I am. My gggrandmother on my mother's side was named Lydia Ratcliffe and her father was supposedly Samuel Ratcliffe. Lydia married William Walker on December 31, 1799 in Barnwell Co. They lived in the Healing Springs community just north of Blackville. This same Walker family intermarried with the Holmans who lived in the Holman bridge community of Barnwell Co. so I'd be willing to bet that your Jane Holman was somehow related to Indiana Holman who married Nathaniel Jefferson Walker in about 1858 or the Elizabeth Holman who married Darling Cain, Jr. Nathaniel Jefferson Walker was Lydia Ratcliffe's son. I would like to share what little I have on this family with you in hope that between the two of us we might eventually unravel some of the mysteries which no doubt abound in this family.
