    3. The Ratliffs and Chapman families (Not sure about Rogers) were together in the Middle New River area of then Virginia... There is a book about the area and the name of it has Middle New River in it but the exact wording of the title escapes me at the moment. Perhaps it is "Early Settlers in the Middle New River Valley' ...try that title in the directory, www.google.com . I like that search engine better than any for genealogy work. The author is , here is another senior moment(!), Johnson.... This info will take you back to the Rev. War times before the Ratliffs and Chapmans (and Rowes and Goffs) were so dispersed. If you start there and branch forward a bit, you might get lucky! best to you in your search, Mary Ann

    3. Am interested to know if any one is related to: Frances RATLIFF who married a B.F. THURMAN Dec. 20th, 1886 in Giles, Tennessee I have a Photo of my Grandfather Joe RATLIFF who was born in the later 1870's in Texas. This Photo is of him we think about 1900 standing with a man that was identified to my mother as a cousin... On the back of the photo is written Joe and Thurman. Thurman may have been his given name? Or his surname? Which I am not sure. I also know that there are 7 Thurman's in my family tree, all related to RATLIFF and ROGERS lines (my grand dad Joe Ratliff married Elsie Rogers so the Ratliffs and Rogers are related in that way in my particular line).. the THURMAN's too were related to the Chapmans, also relatives of the RATLIFFS. Curiosity is killing me to find out who and how Frances RATLIFF may have been related as well. Thank you for any help. Kelly kelleen2@icehouse.net

    2. Linda, This is not my Ratliff line. What I have is what I received from Mike Ratliff. You may want to contact him at NAVYT28C@aol.com.He mentioned a Samuel Ratliff who left Lincoln Co. Ga. in the early 1800s on his way to Miss by way of Morgan Co. Ala. His father was supposedly Robert Ratliff. He also mentions Choctaw County Miss. and a burial place in Webster County Miss. I have four different notes from him and they sometime contradict one another. Dean

    2. Hi, My Ratliff ancestor, John S. Ratliff, came from Lincoln Co., GA. He was born October 1, 1806, to William and Mary Polly Stovall Ratliff. In January, 1826, he married Grace Durham of Hancock Co., GA. They both died and are buried in the Verona Cemetery, Lee Co., MS. When I saw your message about Ratliffs in Lincoln County and that some of them moved on from Ala. to MS, I had to reply. John Ratliff was my ggg grandfather. I would love to hear from you if you think we have a connection. Linda

Morgan county is in North Alabama. It seems a Samual and a James Ratliff came together and may have been Brothers. I have been told that there are at least four Ratliff Cemeteries near Priceville. This is not my line of Alabama Ratliffs but since I am from nearby Huntsville, I visited one of the cemeteries on the James Ratliff Plantation recently. I posted a list of graves I found there. They include a James M. Ratliff born Oct. 7, 1868, died Dec. 2, 1945. he would have been about 15 when he had the text book. I don't know about "sweet Claerice Hardwick" but, he married Leila A. Buse. An older James is also buried there who was born in 1824. The owner of the property told me that the first James is buried "on the mountain" nearby. the owner lives on the old Ratliff Plantation. Some of the people I have corresponded with about this line say some moved on to Miss. I checked my 1880 census data for Morgan County Alabama and found the following Ratliffs. Daniel (your grandfather?), Elizabeth, Emily, James, James, Marcus, Nina S. and Sam Ratliff. There also was a black man named Lewis. I hope this is a start for you. I can give you a list of the people I have corresponded with if that will help. Good luck Dean

    3. Found in an IGI file listing a Thomas K. RATLIFF, born Feb. 1867 (Woodward County, TX) wife Mary unknown b. Feb. 1872 in Tennessee with a son Floyd, b. Feb. 1898 in Oklahoma and a male living with them named Irene J. Irvin b. 1835 in Tennessee. Census records for 1900 in Woodward county, Texas. Ratliffe, Thomas L. age 33 b. Texas, 088 - 167B, but I fear the transcription and wonder if that L is an R? In the Elmwood Cemetery is Don RATLIFF, b. Nov. 11, 1903 d. May 11, 1904. son of May RATLIFF and Tom R. RATLIFF. May is buried there: b. Feb. 28, 1873 and d. Dec. 16, 1903. The above files I feel certain are related to my Thompson "aka Tom" and "Thomas" RATLIFF, seen in record as Tom R., Tom K. and Tom L. Tom was the son of Joseph RATLIFF and Francis Harrell. He was born in Texas and died in New Mexico. Tom was married and his wife died of child birth complications, WE KNOW that as fact and we also know that she was buried in the same cemetery as Elsie (Rogers) RATLIFF wife of Tom's brother Joe. Finding both May RATLIFF wife of Tom R. RATLIFF listed there, as well as Elsie RATLIFF wife of Joe RATLIFF in Elmwood Cemetery, Woodward, OK. I am with little doubt that May is the wife of Tom. Does anyone know this family.. could it be that May's maiden name was Irvin? And that possibly May and Tom had this family: Floyd b. 1898 Vera b. in between here some time Don b. 1903 I can only go on my knowledge of Vera as surviving and being taken in by her Aunt Mary RATLIFF 1. Howard, 2. Biggers. (Mary was married twice her last husband that I am aware of was Frank Biggers, foreman at the Box-T Ranch and later Indian Agent for the Crow in Montana). Anyway.. Vera was raised by her Aunt Mary and Uncle Frank. Vera married a Ted C. Wolfe. and I know she had at least one son, Tom. Though I can not find any of them or their descendants.. Vera lived in Montana, some where near Glasgow, Valley County and Nashua that I know of foresure. Her son Tom was rumored to have moved to the Eastern side of Washington State, near Colville. My mother knew nothing of Floyd so I do not know if he survived childhood. Or even if he were a RATLIFF or maybe if May have been previously married? Any help out there? Kelly kelleen2@icehouse.net PS Tom was the brother of my grand father Joe RATLIFF.

    2. I am not sure which Henry it is. I have only been able to trace back to Isaac's (who was born between 1854-61) father, William Ratliff. Isaac's mother's name was Nancy, but it isn't certain what her maiden name was. She was married to Elihu Boggs at one point. My great grandfather, son of Isaac Ratliff, was William "Will" Ratliff. Will was married first to Lina Halcomb and second to Susan Melton. I have extensive information and research that I have gathered over many years and have been unable to connect Isaac's father, William to anyone. I do know that William and Nancy are buried on top of Pine Mt. near the Fields/Ratliff Cemetery on Kings Creek in Letcher County. Legend has it that Isaac had been sent to live with his older sisters in Letcher County. I suspect it had something to do with the civil war. He was living in the home of William Henry and Ozine (Wilson) Fields when he was about 10 years old. I have been unable to find how he ended up there and what his connection was to them exactly other than the Ratliffs intertwining with the Fields family.
