[per Oscar FRICKE notes on HBR/Colchester/64] Lyman W RANSOM was editor of the Visalia Times-Delta and Marysville Herald. His death is reported in the CALL, 16 January 1894 p10 col 2. His stint as editor apparently ran from 14 April 1864 to 22 Feb 1865, as reported in the Visalia Times-Delta Anniversary edition, 26 May 1839, p4 of §3, filed at CSL at fc979.486 V822. There are letters to the editor in Nov 1864, addressing him as "Colonel" [I think a writer got confused about Col Leander RANSOM]. I got this info from the Cal State Lib California Information [card] File at Sac'to. I don't know if he's related to Joel W RANSOM who has a sketch and portrait in History of Santa Clara Co [1922], p 1377. Joel is also listed in something called "pen pictures from the gardens of the world; or Santa Clara Co. 1888. page 385", stored at CSL under qc979.473. The first-mentioned book is at the same call, add H67a. Lyman William RANSOM, age 79, born NY, occ: retired, lived at 114 McAllister in SFO on 29 Sept 1890, according to the SF Great Register 1890, 39th Assembly Dist, 6th precinct. Check the 1860 census for Marysville, page 891, which has him listed [apparently hard to read, as the transcribed index has 3 listings/spellings: "Legman W, Lguran W, Squian W"]. Good luck!
