    3. Guy Brainard RANSOM was b in Thompson, Geauga Co OH, the only child of Giles Turner RANSOM and his second wife [first wife Mary DODGE died 1863] Ellen Lorain FERRIS, who was a cousin of Giles T, being the daughter of Nelson FERRIS & Sarah RANSOM [1812-1847/8]. Ellen b 6 Sep 1839 Columbus OH, d 6 Mar 1910 in Thompson, Geauga Co OH. Giles T was named after an uncle, Giles Turner RANSOM 1819-1862, who died of yellow fever on the gunboat General Bragg near Helina AR. Giles T was son of John RANSOM 1816-1888, [who, along with 11 others, is a sibling of my gg-gfa Sandrus RANSOM 1824-1849]. They were all children of John RANSOM [1784-1830] and Amea AMES, who m 2nd Zebulon RATHBONE and moved back to Avon, Livingston Co NY about 1834. Several of us are searching for info on the father of John; we believe he is also a John RANSOM, died "at sea" c1794, m Betsy BUTTON, who m 2nd Mr BABCOCK, possibly lived in Providence RI. NL Co CT is mentioned in the record also. John is in the 1810 census, Ontario Co NY. [m 1805]. I am looking into a possible connection to an Elijah RANSOM who was there in 1800-1820 censuses. The file indicates that John(1)'s mother was Elizabeth SAUNDERS or SANDERS. nfi Ellen FARRIS was probably raised by her aunt, Elizabeth, who also raised my gg-gfa Sandrus RANSOM. Elizabeth m John MINKLER and remained in Northern OH when her mom and some of the younger sibs moved back to Avon NY. There's 400 pages of notes up to about 1910 on this family in the Buffalo library. I have a copy. The John-John-Sandrus and descendants line is on the web, at http://www.peak.org/~mransom/family/sandrus.htm Take a look, drop me a line, I'd love to get something going with other cousins and really work this line. I've printed the key stuff in the RANSOM RESEARCHER.
