HI MIKE, 1. FIRST, I'll "be switched" (an old Southern expression) if I can figure out WHICH JAMES RANSOM this is. Can anyone tell me? JAMES RANSOM who was the father of Rev. War Soldier, CAPT RICHARD RANSOM (B 1731 D ca 1777 in BUTE Co NC) married AMY DAVIS in 1751. AMY died in 1799 in Franklin Co, NC...so it seems doubtful HE is the one who m. PRISCILLA JONES in 1753.....WHO COULD that JAMES RANSOM BE?? 2. This IS interesting. Everyone seems to be connected somewhere! The RANSOMS are on my father's side of the tree but my mother descends from the ALSTONS of NC/SC. And GIDEON HUNT MACON has ALSTON connections in NC, too. ANN HUNT MACON, (daughter of the below mentioned GIDEON HUNT MACON and PRISCILLA JONES) married CAPT JOHN ALSTON (REV WAR) son of JOSEPH JOHN ALSTON (1702-1781) Chowan Co NC and his FIRST wife, ELIZABETH CHANCY. (I am a descendant of JOSEPH JOHN ALSTON and his SECOND wife EUPHAN WILSON.) 3 If we knew all the stories, we might all be related. HM?? Thanks, Carole Caroline Burnett Cook daughter of Charles Archer Burnett (Ransom desc.)& Caroline Beasley Norton (Alston descent) In a message dated 3/2/00 2:43:42 AM Eastern Standard Time, mransom@peak.org writes: << mransom@peak.org (Mike RANSOM) To: RANSOM-L@rootsweb.com This item is listed in the Tennessee State Archives at: http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/techsvs/qz.htm#r RANSOM Family Papers 1833-1957, microfilm accession # 1255 I got this info from Bob Jones of Florida GenBobJFLA@aol.com "I have 72 pages of "Ransom" covering 22 persons with that surname. These are from the manuscript of W A Jones, "Remnants of Former Glory." "Wallace Alexander Jones, my cousin, never married. Born 1907 died 1981. His manuscript is in the state of TN Archives. There are a few copies held by indivduals. "Priscilla Jones first married Gideon Hunt Macon Jr. {Gideon 6-20-1682~11-7-1761} Gideon's sister, Martha, became the grandmother of Martha Dandridge, Wife of George Washington. Priscilla's genealogy with Gideon MACON takes up 66 pages. Her marriage to James RANSOM on Feb. 8, 1763 covers only 5 pages." I would appreciate a copy or transcript of the RANSOM part of these papers! Mike RANSOM P O Box 1754, Albany OR 97321 mransom@peak.org 541-926-1199 RANSOM FAMILIES: http://go.to/ransom >>
