I saw a photo with handwriting on it in the National Archives Still Pictures Branch files, at http://www.nara.gov/cgi-bin/starfinder/29510/standard.txt and when I held it up to the mirror, the reversed handwriting says "Mrs S H RANSOM 30.5.62" There is no further identification; the file is indicated as "Mrs RANSOM", Creating Org: War Department. U.S. Army. Office of the Chief Signal Officer. photographer: Matthew BRADY Record Group 111, Series B, item # 3776 Does anyone know who this Mrs RANSOM might be? An LDS patron submitted that S H RANSOM married Bettie KING in 1861 in Rutherford Co TN. But it seems unlikely that M BRADY was taking pictures of southerners during the war.
