I'm pretty sure this is the first son of Henry Huntt RANSOM & Annie MARTIN. Henry is a son of Maj Gen Robert RANSOM of civil war fame by his first marriage to Mary E HUNTT. See RANSOM RESEARCHER p 149 >> Mike, You can find a biography on Harry Huntt Ransom at the Handbook of Texas Online at: http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/view/RR/fra59.html Harry was the Chancellor of the University of Texas. I have a letter from him, dated 1 July 1970, wherein he discussed his ancestry a bit with me. He said he was born in Texas; his father came to Galveston Texas and taught there; His grandfather was Robert Ransom of New Bern, N.C.; both Robert and his brother, Matthew Whitaker Ransom, served in the Confederate Army; that both brothers traveled widely but neither came to Texas and as far as he knew, his father was the only family member to come to Texas. The biography gives his father's name as Harry Huntt, not Henry and his mother as Marion Goodwin (Cunningham) Ransom rather than Annie Martin. I know of a descendant of his (Henry/Harry?) sister, Fannie, and she says his name is Henry Huntt. However, a transcript of the Eastview-Newton Cemetery in Catawba Co., NC, where he is apparently buried, gives the name as Harry H. Does anyone really know what his name was? And who really was the mother?
