I have no confirming data to supply but have a piece of paper from someone's web site which states Priscilla JONES was the dau. of Edward JONES Sr. and Abigail SHUGAN. This paper also shows Priscilla married James RANSOM III of Surry, VA. Much of this paper seems to contradict what others have shared with me. It is located at: http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/vafdking/ransom.htm Note: This is NOT my site, I'm just relaying the location. :-) Barb Lewis (relation to Keziah Portis who m. Richard Payne Ransome)

Ransoms, I took this msg off the Augauga CO AL. list forwarded from the DALLAS Co, AL list. but it does mention someone I have in my database: RICHARD RANSOM (son of GEORGE RANSOM and wife DOROTHY) married PRISCILLA JONES in 1763. This generation or two has given us some documentation problems, so ANY information might help. If you are interested you might want to get in touch with Nannette who sent in the info bellanet@swbell.net. APPARENTLY, Priscilla was the daughter of the EDWARD JONES mentioned. She was married more than once. Her other husband was GIDEON MACON. He was married to Deborah EXUM d/o William and Jane EXUM. Edwards JONES III was born in 1695 in Isle of Wight County, VA. He was married to Abigail SUGARS. He died before 1750 in Warren Co, VA. He also had a son Edward JONES and I have no info on him. Their daughter Priscilla was married to a RANSOM and that line married into the PLUMMERS and eventually yielded Isaac Howze PLUMMER who was married into my JOHNSON family in Perry County AL Some of this info was obtained from the web site http://www2.netdoor.com/~will472 >>
I have a serious brick wall on my RANSOM line from Mississippi and am hoping someone might recognize some of the names that follow: Unknown father RANSOM (some say Elvin was his name - no evidence yet) m. Ann Stacy (unproven yet) and they had at least 4 children together (2 known to be b. MS) as follows - 1) Asa "Acie" RANSOM b. ca 1876 MS m. Maggie TATE 2) George Edward RANSOM b. ca. 1880 MS (found in Monroe Co., MS 1920) m. Ida Lizzy TATE 3) Maynard RANSOM m. Unk. Strawhorn 4) Mary RANSOM (lived in Colorado as an adult) and (likely illegitimate) - unknown mother - 5) Unk. RANSOM male - family rumor says this child was half African American and moved from MS to CA at some point - have no evidence at all on this one other than a family story. Hughes Family of PA, SC, TN, AL & MS. Also: RANSOM. Jesse HUGHES (1788-1858) was born in South Carolina, probably in Laurens Co., SC. About 1812, he married Dorcus JOHNSON (1792-1856). They were probably married in South Carolina as well. About 1815, Jesse, Dorcus & their young family migrated to Cocke Co., TN, where they resided for about 5 years. About 1820, Jesse, Dorcus & family migrated to Tuscaloosa Co., AL. Prior to 1850, the Hughes family migrated to Choctaw Co., MS, as they show up on the 1850 Federal Census there. Jesse HUGHES was the grandson of Richard HUGHES (1710-1783) & Mary. Richard HUGHES owned land in Union Co., SC, on the Broad River. Have a picture of a white woman between the ages of 15-25, named Viola Ransom. I found it in a Tallahassee, FL, antiques store. She appears to be short about 125 lbs. with shoulder length red or light brown hair, and blue eyes. Her hair is tied back with a bow and she is wearing a black ankle length, layered (ruffled) dress with crocheted islet bodice and wrist. She has what appears to be wedding rings on her left hand, and is wearing tiny wire rim, monical type glasses. This picture was taken in a living room setting between the late 1800's - early 1900's. The photograph is in excellent condition on stiff cardboard. Anyone interested please contact me, Bonnie Patterson, profiles@talstar.com

Also Laurence and Anne had another Judith bpt 15 Nov 1685. (The first Judith died 1681). Cheers! Penny

Hello Ransom listers. I'll list a few more marriages, but before I start I had a query from Carole in the US about a Peter Ransom. I haven't come across one so far and I don't have any Peter Ransoms on my list of marriages. Sybil in Sydney asked about Roberts and Fredericks. There was a Robert Ransom living in the the Hastings area on the 1851 census. He was a dentist, born in Chelsea, Middlesex. I have no other Roberts amongst my research. There are a few Fredericks. Do you have any more info.? Frederick RANSOM married Ruth CHEAL 20 Aug 1854 in Crowhurst. Mary RANSOM married Nicholas CARRICK 30 June 1702 in Sedlescombe. Elizabeth RANSOM married Richard THOMAS 8 Oct 1702 in Mountfield. Edward RANSOM married Anne CAMPENY 15 May 1666 in Westfield. Barbara RANSOM married Richard BARHAM 21 July 1623 in Westfield. Jane RANSOM married Edward BARNES 19 Dec 1744 in Hastings. John RANSOM married Elizabeth KENT 13 Apr 1768 in Hollington. Naomi RANSOM married Thomas GANDER 24 Apr 1790 in Bexhill. Henry RANSOM married Mary LEONARD 27 May 1800 in Bexhill. That's all for now. Regards, Sarah.
HAVE any of you UK RANSOMS run across PETER RANSOM (1615-1662/63 and his wife ANN SEYMOUR IN England before he emigrated to AMERICA? PETER is probably the ancestor of most of the American RANSOMS, at least those who went from Va, south and west....and some went north ....I think. Anyhow, I believe he is the earliest RANSOM on whom we have records I believe. It would be very nice to be able to document his family before he came to America. MIKE, 1.You have come to the same conclusion I had. I believe we even see several RANSOM's surname spelled RANSONE in places. There seems to be a resistence to a change, but I don't know why we couldn't just say RANSOM/RANSONE, or the other way around. Of course RANSOM is more prevalent and more memorable but if we want to get all the connections, we will HAVE to consider other spellings. I think (spelled ANY way) it's a proud name, implying some sort of worth....hmm? 2. Thanks for answering and for all your scholarly announcements. If you will do that every so often I think it will keep this list active. I hope the NY RANSOMS and those from other countries HI UK! will post more conversations. I get the feeling they post one msg and someone contacts them, but then does not share the CONVERSATION with the whole group. I wish they would. A PERSONAL conversation about your Ransom/Ransone/Ranson is of interest to many people, or might be. Even the names of RANSOM spouses and their families can help the rest of us. SO don't HESITATE to talk freely ON the list. PLEASE.... Thanks Carole Caroline Burnett Cook g-g-g granddaughter of Mary Jane Ransom who m. Rev. Charles Blackmon Faris dtr of John A.
