    1. Josie Randolph Curtis in MO
    2. I'm looking for some help to confirm or deny an old family myth. My gg-grandmother used to tell anyone that would listen that she was a direct descendant of Gov. Edmund Jennings Randolph. I have been researching this for a couple of months without finding a link (or much else). I have exhausted the "tree" through Edmund's son Peyton's line. Josie married (unknown) Curtis and had my great grandfather, Theodore Franklin Curtis in Pattonsburg, MO on 24 Oct. 1888. My grandfather who has Alzheimers has not been able to help any more than to tell me she was a very unpleasant person (he used much stronger language). Was her maiden name really Randolph? Or maybe she was a Daniel, Williams, Skelton, Cocke, Moncure, Robinson, or Taylor. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Howard

    1. Randolph-Preston Link?
    2. James P. Robinson III
    3. A Reposting: I wonder if anyone knows of a link between the Randolph and Preston families in VA. I have a family tradition of descent from the VA Randolphs and a James Preston (d. c. 1842, TN) who named a child Randolph Preston. James married Charlotte Rector, prior to 1795. Charlotte Rector was born in Farquier Co., VA. James Preston was most likely also from VA. Both probably died in Rhea Co., TN. James had a will recorded in Rhea Co., TN in 1842 and a deed recorded in the same co. in 1839. All ideas appreciated. Jim Robinson

    1. Randolph research site
    2. I don't know if any of you are interested, but there is a Randolph research site on MyFamily.com. It contains many, many, many pages (right now there are over 80) of listings (approximately 10 listings to a page) of information on the Randolphs - Wills, genealogies, census data, bible records, book excerpts, etc., etc. in our History section. From what we have found, there were approximately five or six different Randolph/Fitz Randolphs who came to the colonies in the 1600's and very early 1700's. At the present, some of our members are doing DNAs in order to determine from which of those early-day Randolphs they descend. If any of you are interested in researching your Randolph roots, you're more than welcome to join our site. MyFamily.com sites are by invitation only so if you are interested, send me your name and address and I'll gladly have an invitation sent to you.

    1. Elizabeth Randolph of Ohio
    2. After staying up all night reading over 900 messages about Randolph's, I am convinced that I have a Randolph that has simply materialized out of nowhere! Elizabeth Randolph, born in OH, married Daniel Elmes of Ohio, and gave birth to at least one child, Lucy Ann, in Ohio. Lucy was born March 12, 1846. That is the only date I have to place Elizabeth Randolph Elmes in Ohio. Any of you Randolph's out there have a stray child or sister in this time frame??

    2. Join the crowd. We have $20,000 waiting for us until August 10th. Yes, there is big $$$$ for indian ancestry in colleges but there's no cards for this line. I've been doing this for 2 years now and nothing to avail. I've been to the Indian Nation, spent hours and $$$ researching, buying books, etc. and no answers. Looks like this group was members of the "I don't want anyone to know I am Indian group". Any news, I'll be glad to pass on. If you learn anything, please let me know. Good-luck. sandee

    2. Judy Fisk
    3. At our library in Saginaw they have a book that lists Cherokee by blood. 1/16, 1/4, 1/8 whatever in 1890. The gov'nment kept track of the Native Americans in this fashion by giving them a dole. Lots of them just blended in with the white population and are not on this list, for instance my husband's Choctaw grandmother. By 1900 she lists white. You have to have pretty good documentation for that college bit. Good luck.

    1. Cherokee Billingsley
    2. Mary Griffin wife of Samuel Billingsley was said to be a full blooded Cherokee. I descend from this line through Jeptha and Miriam Randolph. I have just learned of the Indian blood and would appreciate hearing from you about any documentation, Indian cards, etc that are available. I have a 21 year old who wants to attend a major college and have heard that they offer scholorships if you are part Cherokee. I know very little about this, so I am asking for all the help you are willing to give. My email address is rootsquest@msn.com
