    1. E-mail fees
    2. Hello Everyone on the List, I know that this is off topic but I thought this would be of interest to everyone of us who do genealogy, and who have found new family members through the different lists, etc. A Federal Bill 602P-5 has been introduced which will permit the government to CHARGE a 5 cent fee on all delivered E-mail. Under this legislation, the US Postal Service will be attempting to bill E-mail users out of "alternative postage fees". The post office does not have anything to do with E-mail but it sure seems as if they do want to. If I understand this correctly-the 5 cents would be charged for the Internet Service Providers and they inn turn would charge us the users/ receivers. SOMEONE has figured up that would cost us 50 cents a day and would amount to $180 a year. This is in addition to our regular Server costs. I for one would have to drop all my lists and would not e-mail anyone. The only way we can stop this is to contact our congressmen/women and let them know our feelings on this. Pat of NYS

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HOCBAIB/955 Message Board Post: Dear All: Some volunteers from the society of the Daughters of the American Revolution ( DAR) have established a wonderful new program for users of Rootsweb. These volunteers will do lookups in their database and records if you think one of your ancestors served in some capacity during the American Revolution. These volunteers have more databases that are available to them than the ones commonly used by the search engines. You can then also find out if others have become DAR members by using that Ancestor. This may show you other descendants and also provide some documentation that you may be able to use in your application! The process is fairly simple : Go to the DAR message board: There are two ways to do that: > www.rootsweb.com > message boards > topics > organizations and societies > DAR Or if you want the easy way :-) http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.organizations.dar Address your message as follows: subject : DAR Lookup > surname> location > dates In the body of the message put the information regarding the person, Be sure to fill out the surnames box at the bottom since the new search engine will be keying on that item. Leave the email response box checked and you will be notified when the DAR volunteers respond . Give them a week or so to get to your request. We really appreciate their efforts. This info can be key for: a: joining these prestigious organizations ( DAR & SAR) b: sending a request for the copies of the files that were submitted and the information they have available. Many thanks to: Glenda Thompson DAR VIS Volunteer Vice Chrm. Patriot Lookup for organizing this effort and all the many volunteers that are donating their time and effort to us instead of pursuing their own ancestors, Best Regards John A Hansen DAR board admin. BTW: Please forward this message to other lists and boards that each of you are involved in. A word of thanks to each volunteer that does this work and especially the one that responds to your post would probably be highly appreciated.

    2. Hello All, Pat Wainwright wrote: She could not have been born in 1790 because her > first child was born abt 1808. Unless I'm reading and thinking all wrong here, Nancy R. would have been 17 to 18 years old when her first child was born. Sixteen to eighteen was a common age for marriage then barring some particular situation. Yours, Oldegens@aol.com

    1. Nancy Randolph
    2. Hello, On Nov. 14 there was someone who was inquiring into the parentage of NANCY RANDOLPH who married JAMES RANSOM. I too went to the site of the Descendants of Peter Ransome. It is very confusing on who her parents were. She could not have been born in 1790 because her first child was born abt 1808. Here is what I have: CAPT. JOSEPH FITZ RANDOLPH s/o JOSEPH (JOSEPH, JOSEPH, EDWARD the immigrant) and REBEKAH (REBECCA) DRAKE. Capt Joseph m FILIA TURMAN 1789. They had 5 children: IDA, JACOB, PHINAS, NANCY b 1790, PEYTON SKIPWORTH b 1792 Petersburg, VA d 19 Jan 1867. This came off Ancestry World Tree. I think that two Joseph's were mixed up. As Capt. Joseph was b 16 Jan 1750 Piscataway, Middlesex Co., NJ d 11 Nov 1801 Sampton, NJ. He is also credited with marriages to ELIZABETH GOODFELLOW MUNDY, and MARY LAING. I also have a JOSEPH FITZ RANDOLPH b 1750 VA d 1810 m (1)---------HIGHTOWER, (2) NANCY TURMAN SOL VA From the DAR PATRIOT INDEX, also THE CENTENNIAL EDITION 1994 OF THE DAR page 2403 There were Fitz Randolphs who migrated from NJ to Va and then onto GA. JOSEPH (JOSEPH, JOSEPH, EDWARD) FITZ RANDOLPH B 24 Mar 1722 Piscataway NJ d 24 Mar 1782 Piscataway, NJ m ESTHER BRODERICK/BRADISH abt 1740/42. They had SAMUEL E.b 24 Apr 1741, Rev. JACOB b 1756, Deacon DANIEL b 26 Jun 1760, Dr. ROBERT b 24 Aug 1762, SOPHIA , JOHN. This was from THIS OLD MONMOUTH OF OURS by Willims. Hornor pages 287-288. Ancestry World Tree had more children but not sure if they are correct. Also have JOSEPH RAN having children Nancy m a Mr. Ransom and a john b 16 NOv 1775 chesterfield Co. VA d 4 Feb 1855 Jackson Co. GA. I have now probably added more confusion to this question of who Nancy's parents were. All of this I collected a few years ago when I was working on my Randolph line to which I still haven't found the answers. Pat Wainwright of NYS

    3. I came across a James Ransom in my Schell research (mainly in Hancock and Putnam Counties). He would have lived in the early and mid 1800's. But I do not have a name for this James' wife. My records show this James Ranson had at least two sons, Alex and Joe. Alex married Rebecca Elizabeth Schell. Rebecca is a distant relative of my wife. Do you think we have the same Ransom?
