Does anyone know anything about the Samuel Randolph who was on the very early(1810-30) Bledsoe census? He may have m. Ann Bayliss in 1819, not sure. William Randolph (b.ca 1754) is said to have been the son of Grief and Mary (Epes) Randolph of Chesterfield Co., VA. He married Louisa Bailey and settled in Roane Co., TN. Among their children was a son, Robert Randolph (b.1787) who is said to have married Mary Catherine Smith. I would like to correspond with anyone researching these families. Thank you. C. Hi folks. In my search for ancestors I have found some who had a much higher education than the norm for the times and some who only had a grade school education. I thought some of you might be interested in what an 8th grade education meant in earlier times: Jan Patton 8th grade education Remember when our grandparents or great-grandparents stated that they only had an 8th grade education? More than likely we, in our ignorance, denigrated this "low" level of academic achievement from the "dark ages". Could any of us have successfully passed the 1895 8th grade final exam? What follows is the actual 1895 eighth grade final exam from Salina, Kansas. It was taken from the original document on file at the Smokey Valley Genealogical Society and Library in Salina, Kansas and reprinted by the Salina Journal. 8th Grade Five Hour Final Exam: Salina, KS - 1895 Grammar (Time - one hour) 1. Give nine rules for the use of Capital Letters. 2. Name the Parts of Speech and define those that have no modifications. 3. Define Verse, Stanza and Paragraph. 4. What are the Principal Parts of a verb? Give Principal Parts of do, lie, lay and run. 5. Define Case. Illustrate each Case. 6. What is Punctuation? Both girls were daughters of Thomas Fisher who died in Robertson Co, TN. Vital stats dates are shakey at best but both of them were married by 1841. It has been suggested that Robert was the son of William F Randolph who died in Robertson Co 12 April 1874. Anyone with anything on this line. Thanks, Verna
