    3. One of my ancestors, Samuel Randolph enlisted in the NC 45th Infantry. He served with three other Randolphs: Shadrach, John, and J. Were they related in any way? Samuel was the son of John W. and Mary Ann Randolph who were both b. in NC ca. 1801-02, maybe Yancey Co. and I believe married there. They later lived in Warren and Wilson Cos., Tn. In 1846 they migrated to Pope Co., Il. Their son, Samuel went back to NC to serve the CSA in the 45th. Does anyone have any info on any of these people? Jan

    1. Randolph family from Virginia > Kentucky
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Randolph / Steele / DuBois / Johnston Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/HOCBAIB/987 Message Board Post: Hello Randolph researchers. Well, things are slowly falling into place. I have finally pieced together correctly some of the family connections. Jennie Steele was born in Missouri in 1846. She had at least one brother, John Steele born in Missouri in 1862. Their parents were John R. Steele born in either Maryland or Pennsylvania, and Susan A. RANDOLPH, born in Kentucky, but supposedly descended from the well known Randolph family from Virginia. Still working on finding those ties. I wanted to post these corrections so anyone else working on this line will not go around in circles like I did for some time. Joseph N. DuBois was born in 1840 in Ohio. He served in the Ohio 15th Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War, one of the longest units in active duty during the Civil War. He mustered out as a Major, but was later given the rank of Colonel. Anyone who knows what the middle initial N. stands for, please let me know. Joseph was first married to Mary E. Askew in Belmont county, Ohio in 1866. She died two years later in childbirth. Mary Askew was the sister of Frank (Francis) Askew, the commander of the 15th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and good fried of Joseph DuBois. Joseph later married Jennie E. Steele - either in Missouri or Tennessee - still working on that. They had one child, Agnes Green DuBois born 1878 in Tennessee. (I had been told that Agnes' middle name was Morrison, but I found copy of the marriage certificate of Agnes to Benton H. Johnston, which shows her middle name as Green). Benton Johnston had moved with his family from Ohio to Wisconsin, and then later he moved from Wisconsin to Dallas, TX sometime in the 1890's. He was married to another lady, Nannie (unknown maiden name). Joseph DuBois moved to Dallas about 1898-1899. He was listed in the 1900 census in Dallas as a city surveyor. His daughter Agnes is listed as a court stenographer. Benton's first wife Nannie died in Dallas in March 1900. Benton married Agnes DuBois in 1901. Their only child, Gladys Johnston was born in 1902. Agnes died in December 1905 (or 1906). Gladys was sent back east to Minnesota to go to school. I think there may have been DuBois or Johnston relatives back there as well. She came back to visit her DuBois grandparents during school breaks and lived with them during that time. There is some coincidences that seems to indicate that the DuBois family of Belmont county, Ohio knew the Johnston family. Benton Johnston's father was William Johnston. William had a brother Jonathan. Not sure if there were any other siblings. I am hoping some of these details connects with other information that has been found on the DuBois family that settled in Belmont county, Ohio. I have received some information on descendants, but am anxious to know more specifics about ancestors. Joseph DuBois Sr. is listed as being married to Jane Tate, and that both of them were born in Ireland. I believe this DuBois line has Huguenot ancestry, and am hoping to receive information to confirm that. Please post or contact me with any additional information. Thanks. Connie

    1. James Randolph
    2. Jan Patton
    3. Let's try this again. Does anyone know who the James Randolph mentioned below might be? The following excerpt was in "Rockbridge Notebook" by George West Diehl. "The Early McClures", Chapter III. "James McClure, Jr. was the youngest child of James and Agnes McClure, according to the family geneologist. He was placed, as an apprentice, under a master tailor to learn that trade. When his training period was over, he married a girl named Agnes and lived for a few years in the community. On Nov. 7, 1740 the Rev. John Craig baptized their son Samuel, and on Nov. 8, 1741, he performed the same services for their daughter Esther. .... "The second son of James McClure, the "old man", is Samuel, who married a girl named Mary. He was seated on Joseph Kennedy's Mill Creed by May 8, 1749, when Borden sold an adjoining tract of land to James Randolph (Augusta Deed Book 2, p. 221). In 1742 he was a member of Capt. John Buchanan's Militia Company. He died before 1760. . . . Then, from "Chalkey, Vol. 1, 1745-1800" we find" August 21, 1754. Patrick Crawfprd vs. Thomas Story. James Randolph, a witness, is about to leave the Colony. Ded. Potestm. de bene. Esse. So we have a James Randolph in Augusta County in 1742-1754. Who was he? Augusta and Albemarle were nearby. Was he a brother of Henry Randolph of Albemarle? Henry did name one of his sons James. And where did he go? North Carolina, England? Does anyone have a record of a newly arrived James Randolph in any area of NC ca. 1754 or shortly thereafter? Jan

Thanks for answering my query. I don't have alot on Cornelia Randolph prior to her marriage to my Manan Franklin Williams. I'm even having a hard time finding a marriage record on them. =( I guess you could say that Cornelia is one my dead ends since I can't find any documentation. The information I'm going off of came from Manan Franklin Williams' bible. I can't even prove that my Cornelia Randolph is actually a daughter to Carson Randolph. I do have copies of Carson Randolph's census records for 1850, 1860, and 1870(actually Aley, Carson's wife since Carson died in the Civil War?). In 1870 there is a Cornelia, age 7, listed. I haven't had any luck locating Carson and his family in 1880 though. I'll be glad to write down and send you what was listed on Carson's census records if you don't have them already. Feel free to email directly with anymore questions or post here. Melody melody@wv.adelphia.net

    3. Hi Doyle, I am still with webtv even tho' I did break down and buy a computer so I could keep better records with the Family Tree Program. Webtv is now run by MSN and even tho' service is supposed to be better and more able to 'do' more, I am not convinced. Today, MSN was not available for a time. This is happening more and more. I will get more informed about computers one of these days and make the plunge and get the computer on line. I found out from my cousin that the Wimpy Randolph in Casey Co KY and who is remotely related to our Randolphs is still living. He was never a long distance truck driver as was the one whose picture was sent to me via e-mail. I guess this other guy had numerous families across the U.S. They are not the same individual. I sent the message to whoever it was who wanted me to find out. We are still enjoying traveling between MI and KY. We have been on the road a lot this Spring and Summer. We spend about 5-8 days at one and then go to the other. Cut grass here and cut grass there. Just kidding. We are putting a lot of miles on the old 1993 Pontiac transport. I hope you and your family are on the 'well' list. I am fully recovered from my acute anemia. My hemoglobin count is now better than good at 15.2. Unknown cause despite all those tests. Don't you think 'idiopathic' cause, is a good name when they don't know? Sounds a whole lot like Idiot, huh? <G> Thanks for checking in with me. Judy
