He wants to do more checking before he releases all ofit. All he has sent to me so far is included in the following. My g-gf was George Washington Ramey. We don't know his father. His mother was Lucy Ramey. George has her surname because she was unmarried when George was born. Later Lucy married Isham Doss and had two children by him. George Washington Ramey, my g-gf and wife Lear Warf We have conflicting data about George's birth: 3 birth years and birth states. 1) From 186? to 1885 George and Lear lived in Ripley,Jackson county,VA. 1870 and 1880 census records there say George was born in 1826 in VA. 2) From 1886 to death George and Lear lived in Colorado. A state of CO soundex card says George was born in 1829 in VA. 3) George's death certificate from Brighton,CO says he was born in June of 1831 in GA. We think George was born in Carroll County,VA because we know that Lear was born there and their wedding application was found there dated 07/10/1852.� d 07/29/1902 Brighton,Adams County,CO (George) buried in a Ramey family plot in Fairmont Cemetary,Denver,CO wife Lear Warf b 10/4/1830 Carroll County,VA d 02/05/1920 Brighton,Colorado buried Fairmont Cemetary,Denver,CO Lear's parents were John Warf and wife Patsy Harrell both born in VA. They were married in Carroll County,VA and they are found in the 1850 census there. John and Patsy had a number of other children too.� We think George was in Confederate Army. We don't know where he lived when he enlisted or what unit he was in. We don't know anyplace George and Lear lived before leaving VA or what year they left VA. Birth records of 3 of their children were found in Giles County,VA. These were: Virginia New River 11/29/1860 Sarah New River 11/15/1864 Thomas ? 09/29/1866 Evidently George and Lear moved to Ripley,WV sometime between the birth of Thomas and end of 1869 since they were in the 1870 Ripley census. � In 1885 they left Ripley,WV and went West with 11 children for the free land. A daughter Lucy stayed in Ripley. She married a Straley. About 1994 relatives went to Ripley,WV and met Gene Straley a grandson of George/Lear's daughter Lucy. George & family stayed in Kearney,NE one year and in spring of 1886 went to Iliff,Colorado area for a few years. In 1890 they moved to Brighton,Adams County,Colorado for life. Except for one son,my gf William Alexander Ramey, who stayed behind and finally settled in Sterling,Logan County,Colorado. Relatives tell me George and Lear had 14 children and they have documented this. They say one Daughter Lily Susan is listed by one name in one census and by another name in the next census. This must be the 1870 and 1880 Ripley,WV censuses. So in the census records it appears George/Lear had 15 children. Two of their children died young. And their last 4 children were two sets of twins. my grandparents William Alexander Ramey and wife Adella "Della" Winifred Holden William was the only family member who stayed behind in Logan County,CO when rest of the family went to Brighton in 1890. b 06/29/1869 Ripley,Jackson County,WV d 07/17/1943 Sterling,Logan County,Colorado wife Adella Winifred Holden b 03/14/1872 Schroon,Essex County,NY d 06/13/1953 Sterling,Logan County,Colorado m 06/08/1893 Will and Della had 5 children,all sons,including my father Dr. Paul Maynard Ramey. My father said Will was a very shrewd businessman; that he started out pennyless and at the time of his death his estate was estimated worth $ 250,000. That is in 1943 dollars. Della Holden was a direct descendent of an English man Richard Holden who came to New England and settled in Watertown,MA near Boston in 1634. I am a tenth generation American in this line.
