A number of years ago, I got a copy of the book Remy Family in America, and re-indexed it by name and place. While doing this, I found many, many errors, and have found many more since. I was first going to write an update of this book, but after seeing the number of errors, have realized that a completely new history is called for. The most common error is the assignment of a child to the wrong parents, which means most of the lines in the book are inaccurately traced. Other errors include assignment of the same marriage to two couples and assignment of marriages to the same man to two difference Ramey, e.g., Jacob Remey and Elizabeth Lane and his second wife Susanna Grigsby. The errors in the Remy book are pervasive in the Ramey research community; a commonly spread error is the Miles surname for the wife of Jacob Remy, the immigrant. Before anything in the Remy book can be accepted, the documentation the author used to support his facts must be examined. In many cases, the documentation is nonexistent, or not relevant. If your research contradicts what is in the Remy book, accept your findings, not those in the book! Rick Ramey Forest, VA
