More on Lawrence - I spent Friday and Saturday at a genealogy conference in Lufkin, TX. As usual there were several booksellers there. After perusing their wares for something in my direct line with no success, I decided to see if I could find anymore on Lawrence Ramey which Marcil and Rick and I were discussing last month. Sure enough, I found a history of Matagorda County in 2 large volumes. Upon looking in them I found the Lawrence we've discussed and according to the book, he is not Alexander's son at all and he really was from New York. The book indicates he was born in New York in 1801 and was one of the original 300 of Austin's colony and was a participant at the battle of San Jacinto. Nothing new here, but according to the book, he died in 1852 and according to the probate records, his executor was Marshall Ramey and his heirs were Marshall and two sisters who were living in New York (maybe New England). I don't have anything on Marshall and Lawrence from New York (as shown on the census which we had assumed to be an error). I also could not find a Marshall in the Dr's book. The bookseller wanted $100 for the set of books, so I passed on any purchase, and wanted a $1 per word for any copying of info so I don't have the direct quote from the book. Are any of you close to Matagorda County that could research the probate records to verify this? Marcil - I'm totally confused as usual and hope you have some ideas. tom r
