Teresa, Saw your e-mail on the RAMEY-l list and couldn't help but to horn in on your correspondence. I am a Ramey, and my father once said that he had Indian blood in him. I am at a standstill on this line of mine. I cannot find my ggrandfather, WILLIAM RAMEY, m. MARGARET SINE. On the 1880 census from Pendleton County, KY. it stated that he was born on KY and she was born in VA. The ages and names of the children are really dark and I cannot read them. They had several children, John C., Alonzo, Lace, Perry, William,. Arthur, Alice, Mollie, Laurie and Amanda. Some were born in VA and some in KY. If you recognize any of the names please let me know. I will be awaiting your reply. Thanks for your help! If I have any more info that you need, please let me know. Thanks again! Carolyn
Carolyn, I am sorry at this point I cannot help you. You need to work on getting dates/places and times of marriage/ and birth/death if you do not have these. Mine is still a bit sketchy in this line (see posting of yesterday). A good book (also available at public libraries ) is the Handybook for Genealogists. Another one that has helped me some is Genealogy For Dummies. Do searches online. Do you have Family TreeMaker? I could not live without it. State Libraries are the best if you are close to one. Good luck-perhaps we are distant cousins ,but i don't have enough info. on this line either to know! Teresa Panther-Yates
Carolyn, I do not recognize any names though we could be related. I do not know because I am really stumped on this line as well. I do know that Ramey is a possible Melungeon name, so you may wish to explore Melungeon sites as well. (See Brent Kennedy's book The Melungeons. ) The Melungeons are thought to be a tri-racial (or more) mixture of possibilities: Portuguese and/or Indian and/or European and/or Spanish and/or Turkish. It would explain a lot for me. Good luck! Teresa P.S. Get back in touch later if you find out more info.
