    3. Hi Jean - Thanks for all of your wonderful information regarding William Neale and George William. Most of it agrees with what I have, or it fills holes in the information I have, but there are some differences as well. Most of my info is based upon what was passed down through my family, through one family bible, through census records and cemetery records and county records here in Trinity. I am raising the following questions, not to disagree at all, but to try and reconcile what I have to your information or to find additional sources to support one of us. According to my great aunt, George William Ramey died in the home of my great grandfather , Joseph Robert Ramey here in Trinity, Trinity County, Texas on March 6, 1895. He was born in 1825 in Alabama according to various census listings. According to the 1850 census, he was in Chickasaw County Mississippi with his wife Jane and his third son John [Milton] Ramey. According to my family jane was Martha Jane Langston. There is nothing in my family to indicate that there was a marriage to Ms. Roberts. George remarried in Trinity County to Margaret Hooper abt 1861 (according to my family) and she raised the children. Upon her death in 1892, he remaired Helen Bueing. I am also concerned about not being able to find anything on any census about Garn. As in my original post, I find William Ramey (assumed to be William Francis, age and birth place correct per later census but maybe not if he went to war in 1847) living in a home of Albertus Bright with a Joseph Ramey in 1850 in Monroe County, Miss. Is this William Francis and if so is this Joseph the same as Garn? You indicate that William Neale, Sr. went to Texas with his brother Lawrence as part of Austins colony in 1827. I have a hard time with this as George William was born in 1825 in AL and William Francis was born in Georgia on 03/06/1830. This date is based upon his (William Francis) tombstone and various census listings and his confederate pension application. I have found several listings for Lawrence Ramey in Austin's colony but I have never found a reference for William Neale. There is a William Neale Ramey in Lavaca County for quite a few census listings and I have always assumed that this was William Neale Jr, George Williams brother. My father knew William Francis (Uncle Billie) and he did indeed have 2 fingers missing and served in the Mexican War according to daddy but he was just a teenager when he went to war. I will pursue the land grant mentioned for William Neal in 1884. George Williams children were: 1. Margaret Elizabeth Ramey - died at age of 5; 2. John Milton Ramey, b 11/11/1847 d 02/05/1914 Trinity, Texas, m Cora Elizabeth Harrington; m Mary A Murray 12/18/1872 3. Joseph Robert Ramey (my line) b. 1852 d 1927 Trinity, Texas m Missouri Filmore McWilliams 5/05/1881 4. William Virgil Ramey b 10/02/1855 d 05/30/1904 in Trinity, TX, m Eugenia Vaughn and m Eugina B Butler. 5. George Colombus Ramey b 6/27/1857 d 8/05/1918 in Trinity, TX. m Sarah I ? 10/1877 m. Rebecca Winniefred Taylor, 6. The 1880 census reflects Mary E. Oliver, to be an adopted child age 10. The 1870 and 1880 census show the wife to be Margaret b 1843 in Louisiana I have additional information on all of these families if anybody needs it, I will be happy to share. Several of the children you list as children of George William were actually children of Joseph Robert, most of which I knew in my younger days. They are as follows: 1. Willeana (Willie) Ann Ramey b 3/1882 d 8/10/1957 m Francis Milton Hill 8/18/1907; 2. Clydia (Clyde) Evelyn Ramey b 2/1884 d 1942 m Rensselaer Thomas Lealdis Lamb 3/5/1907. m W. D Denton. 3. Nellie Pauline Ramey b 1886 d 1956 m John W. Bland 4. Frances Naomi Ramey b 5/29/1889 d 12/25/1966 m John Green Noblitt 5. Samuel Crawford Ramey (my grandfather) b 3/25/1892 d 9/5/1941 m Dora Anna Mae Johns 6. Pearl Elizabeth Ramey b 3/10/1898 d 10/1981 m Henry Harris m Claude C Rawlings. I knew all of these except my grandfather Samuel Crawford Ramey who passed before I was born. Looks like more digging. Please continue this thread and maybe we can make some sense from it. 3. Hey.... ALL I did was copy from a book.... These folks are not mine..... just trying to be helpful..... Now for a clue or two here..... as there were many that I sent with that post... every one is concentrating on PENSION records.... How about just the plain old MILITARY records..... you have to apply for those separately.. Now also don't forget that the information given on those census records were only as good as the person giving them and many times it could and was the neighbor or a child etc etc....... my 4th great grandfather was born who knows where... he had about 17 kids and half said he was born in PA and the other half said VA.... AND s people didn't KNOW where they were born, could have been born in PA and thought that they were born in IN... that happened also in my family... AND one more then I am off of here for the night..... yawnnnnnnnnnn....... Even tombstones are often WRONG........ again the info is only as good as the person giving the information....... and often the child had no inkling when a parent was born they just guessed...... So keep up the chatter.... Tis good for the soul........ -----Original Message----- From: Tom Ramey [mailto:tramey@txucom.net] Sent: Saturday, June 10, 2000 4:08 PM To: RAMEY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [RAMEY-L] George William Ramey Hi Jean - Thanks for all of your wonderful information regarding William Neale and George William.
