    2. Jerry Bryan
    3. Thomas Underwood and Mary Ramey Enoch Underwood and Nancy Underwood (cousins, Enoch was the son of Thomas and Mary) William Ramey Underwood and Martha Langston Malissa E. Underwood and William Allen Bryan William Harley Bryan and Nancy Virginia Harrison Emmert Oral Bryan and Ruby Priscilla Cox This line is a Dumplin Valley, Tennessee line. Dumplin Valley is about half in Sevier County and about half in Jefferson County. I can trace quite a few of my lines through Dumplin Valley, often for five or six generations. For example, Peter Bryan moved to Dumplin Valley in 1790 and Thomas Underwood moved to Dumplin Valley shortly thereafter. I live in Knoxville, about 20 miles west of Dumplin Valley. The Rameys appear not to be a typical Dumplin Valley line in this regard. It's not a common surname at all in Sevier County or Jefferson County. Mary Ramey appears to have married Thomas Underwood in North Carolina and moved to Tennessee with him, but the rest of her Ramey family appears to have moved elsewhere. She herself died 23 May 1835 in Jefferson County. Actually, Thomas Underwood and Mary Ramey may instead have been married in Virginia. I have m. 3 Mar 1791 in Surry County, North Carlina or Washington County, Virginia. But Washington County, Virginia is just north of the Tennessee state line, and is on the typical migration path from North Carolina to East Tennessee. I have several cases in my data base where a marriage may have been in North Carolina or may have been in Washington County, Virginia (can't tell for sure), but where the couple ended up living in East Tennessee.) David McCampbell wrote of Burl Underwood's book THE UNDERWOODS FROM ROARING GAP (NC) TO DUMPLIN VALLEY (TN) AND ONWARD. Much of my Underwood information came from Burl Underwood's book. David McCampbell also wrote of Ahaz Bryan who married Margaret Callahan. Margaret Callahan was the daughter of Samuel Callahan and Milly Underwood. Milly Underwood was the daughter of Thomas Underwood and Mary Ramey. But Ahaz Bryan was the brother of my ggg grandfather Peter H. Bryan and the son of my gggg grandfather Thomas C. Bryan, Sr. Thomas was the son of Peter Bryan who founded the Bryan family in East Tennessee. Ancestors of Mary Ramey are William Remy (and Eleanor Clack or McCarty) of Daniel Remy (and Dorcus Brickey) of William Remy Sr. (and Catherine Asbury) of Jacob (Jacques) Remy (and Mary) of Piere Ramey (and unknown). The ancestor information has been taken from RAMEY-L and not researched by me in any way. 3. Jerry, thanks for the reply. Our Underwood line from Thomas down is a “daughter-out” with Thomas’ daughter, Milly, who married Samuel CALAHAN. (We have dead-ended on the Calahans, also.) I find Enoch, Nancy, John, __ KIRBY, William Ramey, and Martha LANGSTON noted in our records (From THE UNDERWOODS FROM ROARING GAP . . . By Burl UNDERWOOD). >From Milly down we have : Milly-Samuel CALAHAN, Margaret CALAHAN Ahaz W. BRYAN, Sarah BRYAN-David Parmely McCAMPBELL (my husband’s grandparents). Back to Ramey: According to THE UNDERWOODS.... above, (1986 edition) Mary (b. 13 May 1772) is the daughter of William RAMEY and Catherine OSTEEN. According to Burl Underwood’s 1st edition, 1975, she could also be the daughter of Joseph RAMEY and Matilda __., but I believe he did not say that in the 1986 edition. William REMY (m. __ Clack or McCarty) would be the right age to be Mary’s father, but I believe she is not mentioned in THE REMY FAMILY IN AMERICA - that book mentions a son Joseph. I will have to look at the book again. Burl UNDERWOOD is the only source I have that mentions Mary. If anyone knows of any other source, I would appreciate knowing about it. Thanks - Molly

    3. Test for having children MESS TEST: Smear peanut butter on the sofa and curtains. Place a fish stick behind the couch and leave it there all summer. TOY TEST: Obtain a 55 gallon box of legos (if Lego's are not available, you may substitute roofing tacks). Have a friend spread them all over the house. Put on a blindfold. Try to walk to the bathroom or kitchen. Do not scream(This could wake a child at night). GROCERY STORE TEST: Borrow one or two small animals(goats are best) and take them with you as you shop at the grocery store. Always keep them in sight and pay for anything they eat or damage. DRESSING TEST: Obtain one large, unhappy, live octopus. Stuff into a small net bag making sure all arms stay inside. FEEDING TEST: Obtain a large plastic milk jug. Fill halfway with water. Suspend from the ceiling with a stout cord. Start the jug swinging. Try to insert spoonfuls of soggy cereal(such as Fruit loops or Cheerios) into the mouth of the jug, while pretending to be an airplane. Now dump the contents of the jug on the floor. NIGHT TEST: Prepare by obtaining a small cloth bag and fill it with 8-12 pounds of sand. Soak it thoroughly in water. At 8:00 p.m. begin to waltz and hum with the bag until 9:00 p.m. Lay down your bag and set your alarm for 10:00p.m. Get up, pick up your bag, and sing every song you have ever heard. Make up about a dozen more and sing these too until 4:00a.m. Set alarm for 5:00a.m. Get up and make breakfast. Keep this up for five years. Look cheerful. PHYSICAL TEST(WOMAN) Obtain a large bean bag chair and attach it to thefront of your clothes. Leave it there for 9 months. Now remove 10 of the beans. PHYSICAL TEST(MEN) Go to the nearest drug store. Set your wallet on the counter. Ask the clerk to help himself. Now proceed to the nearest food store. Go to the head office and arrange for your paycheck to be directly deposited to the store. Purchase a newspaper. Go home and read it quietly for the last time. FINAL ASSIGNMENT: Find a couple who already have a small child. Lecture them on how they can improve their discipline, patience, tolerance, toilet training and child's table manners. Suggest many ways they can improve. Emphasize to them that they should never allow their children to run<BR> wild. Enjoy this experience because it is the last time that you will know everything!

Didlier lived in the 15th Century. Desiderius lived in the 9th century. Some Ramey researchers do believe that Didlier was a descendent of Desiderius. It sure would interesting to know for sure. Lois -----------------ORIGINAL MESSAGE: : I may as well put my names in as well. : I have found that Deider is really Desiderius. He had two daughters and a son : Pierre, who we come from. 3. What I Have Learned..... I've learned.... that the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person. I've learned.... that when you're in love, it shows. I've learned.... that just one person saying to me, "You've made my day!" makes my day. I've learned.... that I feel better about myself when I make others feel better about themselves. I've learned.... that having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world. I've learned.... that what we have done for ourselves alone dies with us. What we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal. I've learned.... that one sincere apology is worth more than all the roses money can buy. I've learned.... that being kind is more important than being right. I've learned.... that you should never say no to a gift from a child. I've learned.... that I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in some other way. I've learned.... that no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with. I've learned.... that sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand. I've learned.... that simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult. I've learned.... that life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes. I've learned.... that we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for. I've learned.... that money doesn't buy class. I've learned.... that it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular. I've learned.... that once a relationship is over, if you experienced more smiles than tears, then it wasn't a waste of time. I've learned.... that under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved. I've learned.... never to humiliate another person. Always give him an honorable way to back down or out of something and still save face. I've learned.... that the Lord didn't do it all in one day. What makes me think I can? I've learned.... that if you are still talking about what you did yesterday, you haven't done much today. I've learned.... that when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you. I've learned.... that the older I get, the smarter my parents become. I've learned.... that love, not time, heals all wounds.
