    3. There was a lady on one of these lists that hasn't read her e-mail for months.... She now has over 100 from just one list.... And as her mail box has been full for eons... and her mail was being RETURNED..... She was automatically UNSUBSCRIBED from the list.. I have it set up that after 3 bounces it will automatically unsubscribe you. I have a choice... 3, 4, 8, 12, 16 bounces........ I chose 3 because all of your bounced e-mails to the lists come to me and I have a LOT of lists...... :) then I have to send the bounced person a letter explaing to them that they are no longer a member and then forward their e-mails to the list..... Well, I have just decided that I am not going to do that any more.... So much for being a nice person :) and an understanding List Mom.... It is just sometimes overwhelming..... So remember guys and gals.... If you are going to be away from your computer for a few weeks or months or what ever... please UNSUBSCRIBE before you leave (unless you have unlimited capacity in your mail box) and then when you return you can resubscribe....... If you are subscribed to more then one list you can list all of them on one e-mail and do things in one swell swoop (I think) at least you used to be able to.... I am getting ready to leave for several months and will have to unsub from about 35 lists and resub to my away from home addy.... It takes a few min but will keep things from clogging up...... I love Genealogy... have been at it for over 40 years.... Can't do the actual research much any more as I am handicapped but sure do enjoy what I can do and the lists.... Keep up the chatter..... it is important and does help others...... In tracing Joseph Robert Ramey's wifes family, it was real interesting to note that they only aged on an average of 7 years every 10 years. Its a neat trick and I wish I had their secret. 1. [RAMEY-L] my Ramey line for the newcomers to the list
    2. Paul Maynard Ramey Jr
    3. ------------------------------------------------------- RAMEY ancestry of Paul Maynard Ramey Jr rev: 04-06-00 afn48665@afn.org paulramey@dellnet.com 4524 NW 23RD AVE, APT F, Gainesville, FL 32606 ------------------------------------------------------- Some of this is not verified ; our best guess. Several relatives have made trips to VA and WV looking for info on my g-gf George Washington Ramey. We don't know who George's father was. His mother was Lucy Ramey. George was given her surname because she was unmarried when George was born. We think Lucy was from NC. Later Lucy married Isham Doss (before 1835). location unknown. Lucy had two children (James & Jane) by Isham. Census says James was born in NC in 1835. Later Lucy & Isham moved to VA. They are found in Wythe County,VA census of 1850. This census says: Isham Doss, age 55,laborer,born NC Lucy, age 49,born NC son James, age 15,born NC According to this: Lucy was born in 1801 and Isham in 1795. We think an Abraham Ramey b about 1788, don't know where, may have been father of George's mother Lucy. Abraham's wife was Ann Massey. We think they lived in NC. George Washington Ramey, my g-gf and wife Leahr Warf: We have conflicting data about George's birth: 1) From 186? to 1885 George and Leahr lived in Ripley, Jackson county,WV. 1870 and 1880 census records there say George was born in 1826 in VA. 2) From 1886 to death George and Leahr lived in Colo- rado. A state of CO soundex card says George was born in 1829 in VA. 3) George's death certificate from Brighton,Adams County,CO says he was born in June of 1831 in GA. 4) Cousin Griff thinks George was born in June of 1830, probably in NC. d 07/29/1902 Brighton,Adams County,CO (George) buried in a Ramey family plot in Fairmont Cemetary,Denver,CO wife Leahr Warf b 10/04/1830 Carroll County,VA d 02/05/1920 Brighton,Colorado m /1852 Wytheville,Carroll County,VA their wedding application was dated 10 July 1852. buried Fairmont Cemetary,Denver,CO Leahr's parents were John Warf and wife Patsy Harrell both born in VA. They were married in Carroll County,VA 14 August 1828 and they are found in the 1850 census there. They had a number of other children too. John Warf died 14 June 1887. John's father was Berryman Warf b in VA. Berryman's mother was Fanny Warf, unmarried We think George was in Confederate Army. We don't know where he lived when he enlisted or what unit he was in. Relatives found a G Ramey that might be him in Confed- erate archives. It lists him as a private in Co. In 1885 they left Ripley,WV and went West with 11 of their children for the free land. Daughter Lucy stayed in Ripley. She married a Straley. AND s people didn't KNOW where they were born, could have been born in PA and thought that they were born in IN... that happened also in my family... AND one more then I am off of here for the night..... yawnnnnnnnnnn....... Even tombstones are often WRONG........ again the info is only as good as the person giving the information....... and often the child had no inkling when a parent was born they just guessed...... So keep up the chatter.... Tis good for the soul........ -----Original Message----- From: Tom Ramey [mailto:tramey@txucom.net] Sent: Saturday, June 10, 2000 4:08 PM To: RAMEY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [RAMEY-L] George William Ramey Hi Jean - Thanks for all of your wonderful information regarding William Neale and George William. Most of it agrees with what I have, or it fills holes in the information I have, but there are some differences as well. Most of my info is based upon what was passed down through my family, through one family bible, through census records and cemetery records and county records here in Trinity. I am raising the following questions, not to disagree at all, but to try and reconcile what I have to your information or to find additional sources to support one of us. According to my great aunt, George William Ramey died in the home of my great grandfather , Joseph Robert Ramey here in Trinity, Trinity County, Texas on March 6, 1895. He was born in 1825 in Alabama according to various census listings. According to the 1850 census, he was in Chickasaw County Mississippi with his wife Jane and his third son John [Milton] Ramey. According to my family jane was Martha Jane Langston. There is nothing in my family to indicate that there was a marriage to Ms. Roberts. George remarried in Trinity County to Margaret Hooper abt 1861 (according to my family) and she raised the children. Upon her death in 1892, he remaired Helen Bueing. I am also concerned about not being able to find anything on any census about Garn. As in my original post, I find William Ramey (assumed to be William Francis, age and birth place correct per later census but maybe not if he went to war in 1847) living in a home of Albertus Bright with a Joseph Ramey in 1850 in Monroe County, Miss. Is this William Francis and if so is this Joseph the same as Garn? You indicate that William Neale, Sr. went to Texas with his brother Lawrence as part of Austins colony in 1827. I have a hard time with this as George William was born in 1825 in AL and William Francis was born in Georgia on 03/06/1830. This date is based upon his (William Francis) tombstone and various census listings and his confederate pension application. I have found several listings for Lawrence Ramey in Austin's colony but I have never found a reference for William Neale. There is a William Neale Ramey in Lavaca County for quite a few census listings and I have always assumed that this was William Neale Jr, George Williams brother. My father knew William Francis (Uncle Billie) and he did indeed have 2 fingers missing and served in the Mexican War according to daddy but he was just a teenager when he went to war. I will pursue the land grant mentioned for William Neal in 1884. George Williams children were: 1. Margaret Elizabeth Ramey - died at age of 5; 2. John Milton Ramey, b 11/11/1847 d 02/05/1914 Trinity, Texas, m Cora Elizabeth Harrington; m Mary A Murray 12/18/1872 3. Several of the children you list as children of George William were actually children of Joseph Robert, most of which I knew in my younger days. They are as follows: 1. Willeana (Willie) Ann Ramey b 3/1882 d 8/10/1957 m Francis Milton Hill 8/18/1907; 2. Clydia (Clyde) Evelyn Ramey b 2/1884 d 1942 m Rensselaer Thomas Lealdis Lamb 3/5/1907. m W. D Denton. 3. 3. Hi Marsil: Thanks for your post. I do know of one Bettie Ramey confederate pension application from Texas. She was the wife of John Milton Ramey, George Williams son. Her application was number 33162. I have corresponded with her family on several occasions and her full name was Cora Elizabeth Harrington. I do not see another pension application on the index for a Bettie. I did stumble on a Martha J. Ramey application which shows husband Stephen Barton from Upshur County that I had not seen before and I have requested a copy today. With regards to when they came to Texas, my great aunt, who was the authority on all of this swears that it was 1859. I have been unable to locate them on any 1860 census at this time. I also have not located anything on his civil war history, which might pinpoint where he enlisted from. I do know that his brother William Francis enlisted in the spring of 1862 in Company I of the Texas 26th Calvery - B Debreys Regiment according to his pension application. In his application he indicates that he moved to Trinity, Trinity County, Texas in 1861. This would fit with the 1859 date, in which they came to neighboring Polk County. Since William Francis and George William supposedly came to Texas together, I think that my great aunt was right in her 1859 date. Thanks for your input and help. I hope you will look at the pension application you have and see if its the Bettie - John Milton Ramey's wife or if its another one. If it is indeed another one, I sure would appreciate your sending me the file number so that I can request it from the state. By the way, I get grumpy at lunch time as well. Thanks again. 3. Well Tom, One thing I have learned with genealogy-all things are possible. At this point I feel that the pension application did state she was the wife of George W. but then again I haven't dug it up yet either. This is of course of no value, my sister lives very near Trinity. She goes over there to look for antiques often. She stopped in the Ramey Antique store. They discussed genealogy for a bit-the Rameys at the store said their Rameys came from SC. Just another rod in the fire- Peope do get their memories confused with other stuff sometimes. I know I do,. I'll start digging. My gracious, you ask a lot of a poor old gal. 3. That may well be what the "Book" Says Ste Mom. However, the Stephen F. Austin Colony only lists Lawrence Ramey as a member. Texas Peerage by Best does not give him as a member of the colony either. I believe this was all submissions on this George W. Ramey-I believe by Ms. Renner. Therefore, we have to take it as oral history only from some points. The date of death for Betty Roberts is incorrect also according to Dr. Rhamy. 3. Hi Tom an other interested people, Bettie's pension application is filed in Texas. I''ll try to dig it up and send you a copy. I will admit there is some confusion about all of this.In the pension papers that George served with a Texas unit during the civil war. Now I guess that doesn't necessarily mean he lived in Texas at the time. However, it appeared to me that he did but info doesn't fit with his arrival in Texas. The state of Texas has their pension applications index on line. They are easy to to find and they only charged me $2.00 for the entire file. Maybe reading this with a different view point might help. I was looking for my old George W. Reamy. I seem to be jumping around here but the pension application was under Widow's applications. More later-seems as if I know an Old Grumpy that wants lunch. You know that Old Grumpy's can't fix their own lunches. Makes me wonder if George W. is related to the bunch in Westmoreland Co VA.They loved the name Neale-apparently after a wife-Hannah Elizabeth Neale-or maybe not.
