    3. Jeannie, Don't rock the boat. I'm too fragile. I have already nailed down these Ramey ancestors and have gone on to others. I would hate to think I would have to start all over again. If the Remys were of noble birth, not necessarily of royal birth, they may not have been of enough renown to become part of French history, but being landowners and having special favors bestowed upon them and the like, records were probably kept. Perhapes our Doctor Rhamey had access to old records. Genealogy going back this far, hundreds of years, is a shot in the dark anyway. During the Dark Ages, when many of these Remys lived, things disappeared. A lot was lost. Who knows what was happening then. Scientists tell us that there were massive fires across the land. Stop and think. If our electrical power system in this country was eliminated completely. Most all of our records concerning everything we are doing or have done would be lost. Everything is kept on computer hard drives. What we are today seems to depend on being able to push a botton that is connected to a power supply somewhere. Anyway, Maybe Dr. Rhamey had actual records of long ago Remys to draw from, or maybe he made it all up or thought he was right when actually he was wrong. I would be interested in what Rick Ramey on this list has to say about all of this. Rick has been doing serious Ramey research for years. I know that he does not rely on The Book for his information. What does Rick think of the ancestors of Jacob Remy? Lois Arthur ------------ORIGINAL MESSAGE------------ : Just HOW did the name of Rheims-Ramey-Remy etc etc etc.... I have been reading all afternoon and there is no indication that all that stuff is true.... there is just NOTHING on the net concerning this family and ANY connection with nobility bought, given or any thing else..... I wonder where he got this information... I assumed that he was correct as he listed things that SOUNDED legit........ but... now am having second thoughts.... Still want to check out this ennobled stuff and see where that leads.... I think that this family just came from Rheims and assumed the name..... as was common in that day and age....... And some one has elaborated on that and walla we are a great and noble name .. har har... Just my thoughts on the subject... tho being female I am allowed to change my mind.. :) jd. <><

    3. I have an old family bible which identifies my great great grandfather as George William Ramey of which I posted about last week and several of you posted replies, for which I am most appreciative. As I indicated, he is on the Chickasaw County, Mississippi census in 1850 as George with a wife Jane, and a son John. This listing agrees with other info that I have including listings in 1870, 80, 90 for George. In digging I found a sale today in December 1847 of Indian land in Pontotoc to George Washington Ramey of Chickasaw County, Mississippi. Is the bible wrong with the William or ???? Any thoughts would be appreciated. For further reference, George W?? is the father of Joseph Robert, John Milton, William Virgil and George Columbus and brother to William Francis and William Neale Jr.

    3. HI.... I had to laugh when you ask is Geo. William and possibly Geo Washington the same person... yes COULD be.... My friend and I looked for her Grandfather for years only to find that he used 2 different set of names.... Initials were the same.. Walter Edgar Holderby and Walter EDWARD Holderby... he signed his name both ways.... Drove us crazy until we figured out that they one and the same person..... my great grand father went by the name of both Francis CHARLES and Francis MARIAN Eggleston..... and who knows why, have my thoughts on the subject tho.... As I don't think that he bothered to divorce his first wife and married my G-grandmother under the FC name..as they named their 1st son Francis Charles... must have been and inside joke with them....... He may have had a reason to change part of his name..... one will never know.... Then again it could be two different folks.. the Indians had to take white names then so it may be an Indian that used that name to get the land..... check on the Indian rolls and see if there was an Indian with that name...... 3. Jeannie, You mean Beatrix de Busancy, wife of Georges Remy and great grandaughter of the Marchioness de Busancy of Rosieres. Sounds so grand, don't they. I have tried to track down this line and come up with nothing. I tried French royality sites and everything. Actually, these people lived in the medieval period of Europe when it was believed that an asteroid hit the earth, or some catatrophic event occurred to darken the planet for years, and the advance of civilization ceased.......... The Dark Ages. It is difficult to trace ancestors through this period. I did find a tourist castle in France called Chateau de Rosieres, a 15th and 17th century fortress. Could this be the home of our Marchioness? Also, I found a rose called the Marchioness of Rosieres. So, there is some memory of this family yet. I'll bet that the Marchioness had a crown. If "you know who" got her hands on it, it would end up in a pawn shop in Roswell.
