Hello, I am still trying to locate my great grandparents and more info on them. I know that at one time they lived in Keokuk County in Iowa and the census I saw said that they were both born in France. I am looking for a Louis Ramey married to Virginia Saliski (Salesky) I know of three children that they had and may have been more. Louie Ramey (Raymie) born 1887 died 1940 married Elizabeth Sonneburg Jule Ramey (Raymie) born 1898 Frank Ramey (Raymie) born 1893 died 1983 Louie and Elizabeth are my grandparents. If anyone out there can help it would be deeply appreciated. Thanks, Sandy Seitz
Dear Sawyer, There is a Milton Ramey listed in the 1850 Census for Montgomery County, Tennessee on page 191. My source was the Tennessee Census Database located in Ancestry.com. Hope this helps. Angela ASmith5907
I am reposting this for Roll Call; My Jesse J Ramey(My ggrandfather) was b. 13 Nov 1855 in Melton TN. I have found a map and see that it is located just south/east of Nashville. He Married unknown MILLS. My Grandmother was Verna Rose Ramey b. 15 Jan. 1897. (In either Oklahoma, or Texas) I, somewhere, have a picture of her when she was about 9yrs old with 4 of her sisters. I believe she also had brothes WILLIAM RAMEY, ROY RAMEY m. JOSIE unknown, and EARL RAMEY. One of her sisters m. JACK SILLS, and they had a daughter VIRGINIA SILLS. The SILLS owened a photography stuido in Texas. Jess was a rancher. That is all I have. I do have a few pictures of him, but none on line yet. Paulette
Thank you, Searching 2 minds, I will certainly look into this 1800 and 1840 NC census info you gave me. James is first found in GA in the 1850 census......so maybe this is it. Ramey's are the best! Bonnie
The Ramey we are still hunting proof on is: Robert Ramey born ca 1800 in Scott Co, Va married Feb 1-6 1837 in Morgan Co, Ky to Lucy Tipton who was born Ca 1820 married second to Sally Lawson on May 30, 1823 Robert died in 1882 in Pulaski Co, Mo We show only one child and this was by second wife Sally Lawson. Edmund Price Ramey Sr. born March 27, 1836 in Wolfe Co, Ky married oct 23, 1856 in Morgan Co, Ky to Eveline Hughes married second to Mahala Jane Baker Aug 28, 1876 Edmund died May 22, 1896 in Quitman, Wood Co. Tx My problem: We have never found proof of Roberts parents which we have been told were Jeremaih Ramey Sr and Rebecca Dill. Jeremiah was born ca 1755 in va and married in 1799. Robert is listed as first child of eight. The last being born in 1814. It seems unusual that Robert would wait to that age to marry and start a family. Was there a first wife and another family?

Looking for a family unit in Birmingham Ala. Information from old letters. Thomas Ramey, born 1902, Benjamin Ramey born 1909, Michael Theodore born 1906, Mary Ellen born 1910. These were brothers and sisters. Also maybe a Richard Ramey was also a sibling. Letter states these are children of father's second wife. WHO IS FATHER? One of the letters speaks of Sam Ramey practicing Law in Birmingham, Ala. Any help with this family is appreciated. This family somehow ties into the Tenn. Rameys. A. Sawyer

A state of CO soundex card says George was born in 1829 in VA. 3) George's death certificate from Brighton,Adams County,CO says he was born in June of 1831 in GA. 4) Cousin Griff thinks George was born in June of 1830, probably in NC. d 07/29/1902 Brighton,Adams County,CO (George) buried in a Ramey family plot in Fairmont Cemetary,Denver,CO wife Leahr Warf b 10/04/1830 Carroll County,VA d 02/05/1920 Brighton,Colorado m /1852 Wytheville,Carroll County,VA their wedding application was dated 10 July 1852. buried Fairmont Cemetary,Denver,CO Leahr's parents were John Warf and wife Patsy Harrell both born in VA. The USGS site (www.USGS.gov) says that Colquitt, AL, was in Montgomery County, AL. Rick Ramey Forest, Virginia
Hi Rick, Saw your note on the Montgomery list the other day. You said something to the effect that Jacob and wife Mary Latham were probably married _________? but you had not been able to find it. I found a marriage for a Jacob Ramey and Mary Latham in Chestfield Co VA I show it as 22 Dec. 1803. From Marriage records VA. I think that or either Chestfield marriages-I neglected to make a note of which one. I would dearly love to have information on my 3rd Great Grandparents, James R. and Margaret (?) Ramey. I'm told he lived most of his life some place in NC then went to SC and married Margaret and migrated to Rabun Co., GA James would have been born circa 1788 and presumably died sometime after the 1860 census. Margaret would have been born circa 1792 and apparently died after the 1850 census. On the 1850 and 1860 census, they lived in Rabun Co., GA. As best we can tell, they had 13 children. Their son, Martin Albert Ramey (1828-1867/70) m. Elizabeth Swafford (1825/29-after 1880). Elizabeth is apparently the oldest daughter of Elihu and Nancy Swafford of SC>Rabun Co., GA. They had 12 children. Any help, will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Bonnie Broome (When you were born you were crying and everyone else was smiling Live so that when you die, you will be smiling and everyone else will be crying.)

Frances Gunn reportedly lived with Pheobe Lea Gunn Ramey and Milton Ramey after the death of Thomas Gunn and may have moved to North Carolina. Descendants of J. Milton Ramey Generation No. 1 1. J. MILTON2 RAMEY (RANDOLPH1) was born 1815 in Granville Co., N.C.. He married PHEOBE LEA GUNN May 03, 1842 in Robertson Co. Tenn, daughter of THOMAS GUNN and FRANCIS KILGORE. Notes for J. MILTON RAMEY: There is some question as to when J. Milton Ramey died. He was a Methodist circuit rider, appointed in 1837. CHEATHAM COUNTY was established February 28, 1856, out of parts of DAVIDSON, ROBERTSON, DICKSON and MONTGOMERY Counties, all of which were originally the CUMBERLAND DISTRICT and then DAVIDSON COUNTY. Cheatham was so small when established that no part of it was ever taken to make parts or all of any other counties. On the account sale of Estate of Thomas Gunn, Estate Settlement Loose Papers 1850-1900. Robertson Co. "I find charged by J. T., Gunn guardian as afore said against Milton Ramy a note put in his hand for collection in the amount of 225.00. Also for hire of boy Jake for the year 1855, 1000. For the hire of boy Jake for the year 1856 and 1857. For 1856 $150.00, 1857 $125.00 in all 275 in all. 1857 in cash loaned 300.00. For hire of Boy Jake for 1858 175.00 March 1861. 1850 Montgomery Co. Tennessee Census Ramey Milton 35, Phebe L. 21, Melville S. 6. Tenn Census age 44, F.L age 34 (This is probably Pheobe Lea), M.S age 16 [This is probably Melville Summerfield] age 16, T.B. [This is probably Thomas B.) age13, R. [this is probably Ruford] age 10, L [Lenora} age 7, and T.V. age 5 and a female.(Do not know who the last entry is) 1870 Census there is a James M Ramey age 36 gives birthplace as Tenn living in Clarksville, Tn. Montgomery County. A Wellis age 20, a Sam E. 37 born in Tenn., Montgomery Co, and a Milly age 56 born in N. C. living in Montgomery Co. At this point 7/2000 I do not know who these Rameys are. The Ramey marriage other than Milton Ramey is James M. Ramey married to Deliah Arnold in 1856 and wonder if this is the above Ramey. Interesting as seen below Ruford Ramey mentions wife of his youth as Deliah Arnold.........but he was not James M. Ramey. This needs further investigation. Extracted from The Goodspeed History of Tennessee, 1886. Methodist Church mentions Milton Ramey as an elder in the church. At this time 7/00 it is not known if the father of J. Milton Ramey is Benjamin Ramey or Randolph Ramey. Further research is needed in Tennessee before this can be determined. When this was researched back in the 1930s, my great aunt was told by the researcher that J. Milton Ramey descended from Randolph Ramey. He may be descended from the Jacques Remey line who was born abt. 1630 in Lorraine, France and died in 1721 in Westmoreland Co. Va. Have two coded letters supposedly written by James Milton Ramey who was a spy during the Civil War. That because of his status as a circuit rider he was able to pass between the north and south lines more easily. This is only a family story and yet to be proven. A daughter of Lenora Caroline "Carry" Ramey states, "I saw the old homestead occupied by my grandparents (Pheobe Lea Gunn and J. Milton Ramey.) I have a picture of the house in the photo album of the daughter of Caroline Ramey which was given to me by a cousin in the year 2,000, along with many family letters. Notes for PHEOBE LEA GUNN: Birthdate from Thomas Gunn bible. Middle name Lea was taken from her mother's family in Caswell County. Either married in Cheatham or Robertson Co. Tennessee. Marriage Notes for J. RAMEY and PHEOBE GUNN: Marriage in Robertson Co. Marriages - page 50. Children of J. RAMEY and PHEOBE GUNN are: i. FANNIE3 RAMEY. ii. RUFORD (RUFUS) RAMEY. Notes for RUFORD (RUFUS) RAMEY: Ruford died in the Durham County Poor House as he had signed his house over to the son of his last wife and the son would not care for him in his old age. Having no money and no place to live the "Durham County Home" was where he finished out his days. In one of his letters he mentions his children and a wife of his youth and further stated that they did not know him. The name mentioned was Delina Arnold as the "wife of his youth". Of interest is that in 1854 a Rufus Ramey was listed as a buyer at the sale of property of Hames Harrison. Book R. page 194, Caswell Co. N. C. Also in Book Q page 478 Edward Ramey was a buyer at the estate of John Brooks along with James W. Featherston. iii. THOMAS B. RAMEY, b. March 20, 1846; d. November 02, 1915, Huntsville, Ala.; m. ELIZINA RAMEY. Notes for THOMAS B. RAMEY: Birthdate from Thomas Gunn Bible. >From letters it appears that he had three wives. One was Elzina Ramey, supposedly the mother of Samuel Ramey Notes for ELIZINA RAMEY: Married Thomas B. Ramey, son of J. Milton Ramey about 1910. Elzina had a son, Sam, evidently an adult in the 1920s and it is not known whose son this is. 2. iv. LENORA CAROLINE RAMEY, b. 1853, Tenn.; d. 1917, Wake County, N.C.. v. MELVILLE SUMMERFIELD RAMEY, b. October 16, 1843. Notes for MELVILLE SUMMERFIELD RAMEY: Birthdate from Thomas Gunn Bible. >From letters Aunt Ila F. Cox states Melville and Mother died early before 1865. Melville S. Ramey served with the 49 Tennessee Infantry (Confederate) Co. K as a private. Of interest is that a Melvin S. Ramey born 1814 and died June 17, 1870 is buried in the Gunn Cemetery on Dowlen Rod farm owned by James D. Ayres in a field east of his home. It is not known at this time which Ramey this could be. Generation No. 2 2. LENORA CAROLINE3 RAMEY (J. MILTON2, RANDOLPH1) was born 1853 in Tenn., and died 1917 in Wake County, N.C.. She married JOHN CALVIN FERRELL, son of ELI FERRELL and SUSAN MOORE.
For those of you who do not know, there is a website with forms available from the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives. They have about 30 requests for some form of look-ups each day. Their microfilm copies are 50 cents each plus postage. I know of no other fees, however you can ask. It is located at: www.kdla.net
