Hi JIm, Re: Remy Book. I guess each line has to find their own mistakes. In my particular line there appears to be very few. Of course, one is too many. We eventually got the correct information. He assigned the wrong child to the wrong parent. To correct this however, we had to find a bible record. Wasn't easy. As I said, the confusion of the Williams in Pike and Floyd Co KY was apparently the most glaring mistake he made. Good luck ____ Marsil in the Land of UFO's, Aliens, and weather balloons.
A good researcher takes any and ALL information that he can glean and then sets out to prove it... that is the name of the game... we are very thankful for the "Book" it does give much in where to locate proofs in many instances, but in just as many there is nothing.... So we use it as a good starting point... you might say.....Please be very thankful that we have this book.... It was written about 70 years ago and much is now available that was not then....... And you never adopt any ones information unless you quote where it came from and that you have or have not proven said material. It has been proven to the satisfaction of most that Eleanor was in actuality Eleanor McCarty. She was married to the William Remy/Ramey of Floyd Co KY. The Wm. Ramey in Dr. Remy's book that Jeannie mentions was married to Anna Samlins, I do think. That portion of the book is one of the most glaring errors Dr. Remy wrote. I do appreciate his efforts tho. Gives one a good start and much is correct. ____ Marsil in the Land of UFO's, Aliens, and weather balloons.

Jean, The Moses Ramey that married Jane Fuller is not the same one who married Tabitha (--?--). Our Moses Ramey d. abt. 1845 in Pike Co., KY. It seems that there were 2 Moses Ramey's in Pike Co., KY, one was the one who married Jane Fuller & the other married Tabitha. That seems to be where the confusion begins. OK... lets just show you folks how SERIOUS we can be... IN my book... you, know "THE" book........not a CD but BOOK.... It says..... on page 237... William R. REMY, b. in 1759 in Abingdon, Washington Co., Va., then called Wolfs Hills. He m. Eleanor Harrison, a sister of Williamm Henry Harrison, who became president of the United States. And he goes on and on about the Harrison's.....and finally gets back to the Remy's..William R. Remy moved from Abingdon, Va. To Paintsville, Johnson Co., Ky. Abt 1820-4 and became a prominent man there. He moved to Elkhorn City, PIKE Co., Ky. In 1828 and built a dwelling house at the mouth of Elkhorn Creek. This building was the beginning of Elkhorn City, and to build it he had to erect his own blacksmith shop and make the nails to build the house. He was a Surveyor and laid claim to large tracts of land with coal, timber, oil and gas at Elkhorn City and thereabouts. At the time of his death his estate comprised some 15-20000 acres of land, but after his death his descendents let most of this slip through their fingers. After his wife's death his granddau. Lurinda, dau of his son Moses kept house for him. He d. in 1864 and is buried in Elkhorn City cemetery, his headstone being a homemade rock with out inscription. The Post Office of Elkhorn City is Praise Ky. Pike Co., Ky., Will book ., p.50; "Will of William Ramey, dated April 12 1864, proved April 19. 1866; (This will disposed of some 7512 acres in Pike Co., Ky. And 2183 acres in Buchanon Co., Va., which was sold and divided amongheirs) To eldest daughter Mary Potter; To sons Moses; Daniel; William; John; Charles, his 3 eldest children by his 1st wife, namely , Lloyd, and Riley; To my father's youngest and last grandson, Isaac; To daughters Rebecca Bentley; Ann Bentley; Nancy Belcher; Easter Stewart; and Elizabeth Hunt. Executor: my son Moses....signed William Ramey. Then it lists 13 of his kids one of which is Moses..b 1814 Washington Co., Va. Married Jennie Fuller and lived in Elkhorn City Ky (on page 239) Now on page 271 it states..... that he was born etc and lists his children... none of which matches yours except the Pricy and she married an Eperson Belcher....and Nancy and she did marry a John Deel..... The kids that are listed are... William, Asbury (Berry), Nancy, Lurinda (rinda), (could this be your Marinda?) Richard Eperson, Pricy, Jasper, Newton and Frankie Jane..... Now the name of Belcher is married in to the next generation of this family... The book gives no wills etc for this family, just deeds from William to Moses.......... Hope this helps... just remember that this gent has mistakes in this book and you need to PROVE names and dates.. (Now... it took me several minutes to read YOUR e-mal and has taken me a half hour to look up and type this response.....) I am looking for Rameys who left the VA area and headed to Nova Scotia just before or during the American Revolution. Does anyone have any information about these Rameys. Thanks. Bonnie
Jim, Sometimes the mailing list gets quiet. At these times it is fun to talk with those who share the same ancestors you do. Most of us already know our Ramey ancestors. If something comes in that requires serious research, we are capable of doing just that. The subject of Queen Nefertiti came up. Here is serious research. Nefertiti means beautiful woman. She was said to have been the most beautiful woman of ancient history. She married the very strange looking Pharaoh, Akhenaten. He was very tall with a long narrow face. He was extremely thin but had a pot belly. He did look very alien. Some Scientist say he may have had a serious disease because of intermarriages within the Royal Family to maintain the royal bloodline, which passed through the women. He and Nefertiti left the captial of Egypt and build a beautiful city in the desert. It was called the City of the Horizon. In this city, only one god was worshipped. He was the Sun God. The Pharaoh ordered all other Egyptian Gods abandond. He proclaimed that there was only one god. Most Egyptians did not like this. After 17 years of rule, Akhenaten died. His successor was his brother, Semenkhkare, who died three years later. Here is when Tutankhamen ( King Tut ) assumes the throne at the age of about 9 and died when he was 18. With Tutankharmen, and the help of the priesty establishment, all traces of the Sun God were destroyed. The City of the Horizon fell into ruin. The old gods were brought back and worshipped again for the rest of Ancient Egyptian history, which ended with Cleopatra, the last Pharaoh of Egypt. As for Nefertiti, she struggled to hang onto the throne and keep the one god religion going after her husband's death. But she was out numbered by her enemies. She soon disappeared for histroy. We have no ideal what happened to her. The Ancient Priests had all images of her destroyed that they could find. She doesn't even have a tomb that we know of. She just disappeared. With the passing of Akhenaten and Nefertiti and their one god religion, it would be thousands of years later before a one god religion would be introduced to mankind again.. That happened with the Hebrews. This time, it lasted. Lois Indiana
Jim (the other Jim), There does seem to be two Moses Ramey in Pikeville. This is the one I need help with. Jim Farrar (the other other Jim)
Thank you for the material and research. I have seen it before and it does help clarify the confusion between the two families, I am inclined to think I am connected to the Pike Co. Rameys. My Moses' children and William's children (from Pike Co.) have the same names (mine for Moses and the list for William's: Mary Christen/Christina, Daniel/Daniel, Elizabet/Elizabeth, Anna/Anna, and Nancy/Nancy.) It is possible my Moses and Wm are brother's. Unfortunately, this material doesn't tell who who Moses' parents are or if Moses and Wm are brothers. Jim Farrar

I agree personal chatting should be eliminated from this site. Each day I get a lot of mail from the Ramey site, but very little relates to genealogy. I do have a sense of humor but checking each bit of mail can be frustrating. Other than that, it is a great source of information.
Serious? Had better get out the dictionary, that is a new word for me.... Serious = earnest, grave, sober, etc.......not joking; sincere......requiring careful consideration; important.....AND dangerous. I, myself, am quite serious. As I climb down from my tree each morning, I say to myself, "Self, you have serious work to do today." Then as I make my way over the the pyramid in a very serious manner, Self tries to tempt me into becoming a non-serious self. As you can see, it does not work. The King Tut descendants among us will surely agree that being serious is the best motto for the Reamy/Ramey descendants. The agreement most likely reads along these lines:Take thy self seriously for others may not. You know, somedays it doesn't pay to gnaw thru the straps. ____ Marsil in the Land of UFO's, Aliens, and weather balloons.
This is a copy of something already on the web. Hope it will help to clearify some of the "Moses" Ramey research. Below I am going to list two resources which will make your life a whole lot easier.
