Nefi, Been thinking about it-can;'t find my copy. Think perhaps it simply says" Mr. Ramey came by today." The Jacob may be wrong. Even if it does mention Jacob, still gives us lots of room to play around. Lots of Jacobs around about that time. No, of course, good old George would not have insulted an ancestor of ours. Just sent him to Valley Forge for the winter. Actually some of the Rameys were given bounty land in KY. Several thousand acres, I believe. This battle was fought in 1776 near White Plains, New York. American General, George Washington, lead a force against British troops under Sir William Howe. Washington had lost New York City to the Brisish late that summer and withdrew to White Plains. Howe launched strong frontal and flank attacks and captured Chatterton Hill after severe fighting. Howe decided to wait for reinforcements before pressing his advantage. His hesitation, however, allowed Washington to withdraw across the Hudson River to New Jersey and save his army from destruction. In other words, he ran like mad.
