    1. [RAMEY-L] How do we descend.
    2. Louis Reed
    3. We need a sight where we can post how we descend from our earliest Ramey ancestor. such as: Jacob Ramey, 1762-1804 Dianna Ramey Willson, 1790-1840 Lydia Willson Cordell, 1815-1872 George Ramey, 1792-1845 Mike Ramey, 1823-? Does the above example make sense? Does any one think this is a good idea? If you think it is a good idea I would be willing to create a sight for it. We should just post our direct line. Louis R.

    3. Hmmm!! All these Sanford Ramey's. What's the best way to decipher them. I do know that the Sanford Ramey who raised Dianna Willson had no children. From there I know not where to go. Louis R. 3. Louis, Here is what I have on Sanford Ramey. I don't know if this is the same Sanford Ramey you have, but the dates fit. However, the location doesn't. Sanford Ramey, son of John Ramey and Edith Browning, born Christmas Day 1782 in Culpepper(or Culpeper, not sure of the spelling) County, Virginia, and died July 7, 1854 in Muskingum Township, Muskingum County, Ohio at the age of 72. His first wife was Catherine Gayer, married Oct. 21, 1813. His second wife was Susanna Wells, married Aug.24, 1824. This same Sanford Ramey taught school in a cabin on the road between Dreadon and Shannon in 1816. This was the first school in Muskingum County. I doubt if this Sanford is the one you have because he seemed to have spent most of his life in Ohio, not Virginia, even though he was born there. I am a descendent of this Sanford's brother, Alexander. Lois Arthur in Indiana [email protected] ----------Original message-------: : I just returned from a Genealogy trip through Virginia. There is a dob for Sanford of 1806 but nothing on Eliza. My ancestors are also from Mt Sterling KY. My gggg grandfather Robert was a son of John's brother Jacob. Bobbie

    1. [RAMEY-L] Will of John Ramey
    2. Shirley J. Kovar
    3. Last week on Tuesday, I visited the County Court House in Platte City, Platte County, Missouri, Recorder's office and found the following Will recorded in Book C Pages 356 thru 359. I am not sure why this Will was filed in Missouri but thought I would share it with the list. It appears that this John Ramey was from Montgomery County, Kentucky and his wife was Litty or Letty, and that he had no direct heirs other than a nephew Davis Ramey and the infant son of Presley Wilson, Henry Wilson. Not sure how the Wilson's are related unless Liddy's maiden name may have been Wilson and John Ramey, son of James Ramey. I have transcribed it exactly how it was written, spelling and puncuation are the same. No comma's, periods etc. were used for the most part "In the name of God Amen I John Ramey of Montgomery County and State of Kentucky do make ordain and declare this instrument which is written with my own hand to be my last Will and Testament revocking all others heretofore made by me. My Eliza Ramey, who married Job DAVIS in Montgomery County, KY is one of the great mysteries of my genealogy I am still trying to sort out. I didn't see anything that would link the John Ramey in the will to my Eliza, but just the fact that they were from the same county in KY was a wonderful clue for me! Are you looking for Ramey's from Montgomery County, KY? If so I would love to chat! Bonnie in Alaska

The name Miles arises from another error in the Remy book, and most likely came from the author's (B. W. Rhamy) misreading of the will of Miles Marmaduke. Marmaduke named Jacob Remy as a trustee in his will; he was not named as a son-in-law. Marmaduke named only one child in his will, a son. Spencer mentions Jacob Remy in his will, but only in the context of saying he bought land from him. Spencer does not mention a daughter with the surname Remy in his will which was probated in 1700. Spencer died in 1689, i.e., well after the marriage of Jacob and Mary Remy. All that is known about the name of Jacob Remy's wife is that it was Mary, and this is from his will. I also doubt if Jacob was married prior to marrying Mary. The Remy book (page 45) says that the Fra. Rame who was a headright of John Drayton was Frances, and that she was Jacob's first wife. But Rhamy does not offer any proof of this!!! In fact, Fra. is probably a Francis. Rick Ramey

It would be helpful to all of us from this line to know who Jacob really married. Nefi ----------ORIGINIAL MESSAGE------- : : : Hi Nefi, : Personally I think that he was married to the Marmaduke female.... it is all : up for grabs so to speak.... Everyone seems to have a different slant on : this....... need to really devote some serious research time here.......need : to be in VA to do it too.... : Ste.Arc : : -----Original Message----- : From: Lois Arthur [mailto:[email protected]] : Sent: Saturday, September 26, 1998 7:47 PM : To: [email protected] : Subject: Re: [RAMEY-L] White Plains : : : Thanks Rick. I was wondering what Jacob Remy it could be. The only Jacob : Remy I know of in the genealogy was the immigrant Jacob., and he died about : 55 years before the Revolutionary War. : I know there has been some question as to whom this Jacob's second wife : really was. My information indicates she was Mary Spencer Miles, a widow : and the daughter of Nicholas Spencer, the nobleman to whom Jacob was : indentured when he came to America. Can anyone elaborate on this? : Lois Arthur : : ----------ORIGINAL MESSAGE------------ : : : : : : The book Remy Family in America by B. W. Rhamy, 1942, page 373 says the : : following when discussing Jacob Remy. : : : : George Washington's Diary, Vol 1, page 397; "Date Sep 15, 1770. Mr Renny : came : : here this afternoon." : : : : Rhamy does not offer proof that Renny is actually Remy. Attributing this : : entry to a Remy, much less Jacob Remy considering that Washington did not : give : : the first name of his visitor, is inappropriate. I suspect this : attribution : : is another one of the many errors in the Remy book. : : : : Rick Ramey : : : : : : : :

    3. Thanks, Wilma. A necessary point. Somehow I thought you were connected with Magoffin County - probably because of Connie Wireman there. I really appreciate your getting the books together - I have wanted one ever since I first saw it. 3. Cleo, Thanks for the information. Having been dead 55 years before the Revolutionary War, if Jacob had come by to visit George Washington, I'm sure he would have remembered him. In my searching, I have found a lot of Rameys in Kentucky. Are they from our line? By the way, did Sharon tell you the secret I told her about your crown? Nefi ----------ORIGINAL MESSAGE---------- : : Nefi, : Been thinking about it-can;'t find my copy. Think perhaps it simply : says" Mr. Ramey came by today." The Jacob may be wrong. Even if it : does mention Jacob, still gives us lots of room to play around. Lots : of Jacobs around about that time. : No, of course, good old George would not have insulted an ancestor : of ours. Just sent him to Valley Forge for the winter. : Actually some of the Rameys were given bounty land in KY. Several : thousand acres, I believe. : Cleo : : ____ : : Marsil in the Land of UFO's, Aliens, and weather balloons. Roswell, : NM :
