Glidie-- The source of the misinformation about Sallie Hutchinson as the wife of Miles Rainwater was the Newells' History of Fayette County. A lot of people in Alabama have access to that book and have perpetuated the error. However, this was another case of misidentification. The Newells eventually put Sallie with the right husband, but I do not recall who it was. Could you please send me a copy of the original of the William Edwards estate (1956 Linneman St., Glenview, IL 60025)? I have not seen it before. Which county is it in? I suspect that there is a comma missing, and that would clear up the William vs. Isaac as the father of Nancy. The list of William's children (Elizabeth, Nancy, Enoch, William, Isaac, Newman, Georgia) from the Bible and the list of heirs in the settlement would be nearly the same if the latter read as follows: William (eldest living son), Millie (wife), heirs of Isaac (deceased son; indeed, Isaac was born Jan. 5, 1798, and died Oct. 7, 1830, according to the Bible, and this settlement was in 1836), Nancy (daughter, wife of Miles Rainwater), George (Georgia), and Newman. Apparently Enoch died without issue. I don't understand what happened to Elizabeth, wife of John Yarbrough. She died in 1873. By the way, the wife of Isaac (son of William and brother of Nancy) according to the Bible was Frances Divine, agreeing with the settlement that lists Francis as guardian of the heirs of Isaac. The Isaac married to Frances Divine, however, was born in 1798 and could not be the father of Nancy the wife of Miles Rainwater, as she was born in 1788. Moreover, the Nancy Rainwater in this settlement could not be the heir of Isaac Edwards AND a minor needing a guardian. Our Nancy Edwards Rainwater in 1836 was 48 years old and definitely did not need a guardian. It makes more sense that Nancy, George, and Newman were heirs of William, not Isaac.
