Hi all, 2 things you could try-the WW1 draft registration cards have been microfilmed and can be ordered through a local family history center. also, check out the Social Security Death Index. (I just did,and the only one close was from SC-bn 1890). Do you know where in NC he was born? I've checked the 1900-1910-1920 census for NC and SC as this group tended to be on SC census one time-the next on NC-but didn't find anyone named William J.R. How long had he lived in this small town? Is there a newspaper? Was there an obit? Check the funeral home records that handled the burial. where is he buried? Did his wife pre-decease him? These questions can probably be answered by someone at the courthouse as Columbus is the Co seat.
