Hi everyone, Just wanted to say that the only Rainwater I've ever found in Franklin Co.,NC was Gillian Rainwater and his wife Nancy Christmas. They married 7 Nov 1787 in Warren Co.NC Franklin and Warren were formed when Bute Co was discontinued in 1779. The 1790 census was made up of the 1784-1787 tax lists, so it doesn't give an accurate count, but it does show that they were there during that time period. He shows 1 male-16 and up including head 1 male under 16 and 2 free white females and 2 slaves. So, the first male and the second male could be the same person-which leaves a spouse and 1 female child He is in the Halifax district. He isn't there on other censuses and neither is Nancy. Suppose she is the Nancy who shows up in Montgomery Co.,Tn? There is a William in Montgomery Co, also. There was a William in Warren Co on the 1790- he has 1 male over 21 and under 60;2 males under 21 and oveer 60; and 4 females all ages. I wonder if Gillian ,Nancy and their family and William and his wife Molly Reaves (md 17 Nov 1787) moved to Tn? Gillian doesn't show up on the census but Nancy does and William does in his own household (even though it doesn't show his spouse-darn it). This would mean they were about the same age bracket. Gillian never shows up on any census again, so he may have died and left Nancy a widow-because she is shown as head of household in 1810. Thoughts to ponder. Need to go to Salt Lake and read some land and probate records. I know there isn't one for Gillian because I read all them in Stewart Co., when I researched Robert.(We're still missing some children for him, too) Will close and finish supper. Glidie W
