Richard and Delilah founded Haw Creek Baptist Church near Cumming, GA in 1841. They died within 3 weeks of one another in 1865 and are buried at that old Church which is now in danger of being engulfed by the "Atlanta Monolith". It still maintains its fundamentalist heritage even though it is a part of the SBC. My wife and I were raised in that church. The gravesites of Richard and Delilah have been maintained and new markers have been placed by descendants. Many of their children and grandchildren are also buried in that very large cemetary which has been recently censused. I believe that at least one of the "old maid" sisters of Delilah is also buried there. Richard Phillips was more than just a preacher. He also served in the Georgia legislature. He was listed in 1885, (20 years after his death) as being one of the top 5 ministers in the Hightower Association. Think that JOB RAINWATER was also named in that group. Quite a father and son-in-law combination. Thought I would share that with you.
