I have been alarmed of late at the number of people who thoughtlessly distribute to total strangers gedcom files containing the names and personal data of minor children. This is not a safe practice for the children and may cause you to be an unintentional accessory to a crime against a child. Gedcom files contain enough information that a pedophile cyberstalker could easily convince a child that he was a friend of the family and therefore safe. My genealogy program contains a filter to permit me to exclude everyone born after a certain data when building a gedcom file. I suspect yours does too if you do a little searching. Please use this feature when distributing data and do not thoughtlessly give out information on individuals too young to defend themselves from those who wish them harm. Susan Chance-Rainwater
