Hi Glidie, Thanks for writing back to me. I have various dates for his birth, but 1821 seems the most likely. His gravestone says 1820! I haven't some of the information you sent, so it does look like at least Barbara could not be his mother. Could John Nelson have been married once before? He was born in NC. Looks like another puzzle to solve. According to the 1830 census he had 3 children - 1 male under 5 (Enoch?) and 2 males age 5-10 - maybe Alexander and who else? These older two boys had to have been born between 1820 -1825. In 1840 he had 1 female age 5 and under, 1 female 5-10, 2 males and 1 female 10-15, and 1 male and 1 female ages 15-20. Maybe in the 1830 census an extra boy was added when it should have marked a female. But who are all the extra in the 1840? I still could place Alexander here. So you can see where I think Alexander is John's son but most likely not Barbara's. I am posting to the board so everyone can see and maybe shed their own thoughts on this. Also who is John Nelson's father?
