    1. [RAINWATER-L] Mimeo information
    2. Annie
    3. A Rainwater researcher sent me this years ago, and I don't know who compiled it, or who sent it to me. I would like to share it (in increments) and will type it exactly as it is written. It was mimeographed on legal sized page, then folded in half, with the raw edges stapled together. It starts on p. 38, so I have always wondered what was on the previous pages (maybe other ancestral lines not related to Rainwaters).. Do any of you have those? The *'s refer to Gordon B. Rainwater b. 21 Oct 1886. Well, here we go: p. 38 Data on Military Service: from NC State Records V 22 p. 377-379. Granville Co., NC Militia--General Muster of Oct 8, 1754: Capt. James (2) left no will but deeded his property or at least witnessed by William, my gggrandfather and executed in 1803 in Surry Co., I know that William and Abraham were brothers and both moved to KY about 1812. This is the only weak link in the data. John (32) left a will which was executed in 1771 naming all his children. My earliest documentary record is the Fussell will of 1732. Land grant also in 1739 to John Rainwater. Thus far have been unable to trace back to Rev. War soldier." Gordon Rainwater (son of Miles) of Rt. 2, Fairburn GA. "Have heard there were originally two Rainwater brothers came from Ireland, only one remained. My father was Miles Rainwater in or near Spartanburg, SC 10 Sept 1817. His father was James Rainwater and was called Jimmie the Blacksmith to distinguish from his cousin Jimmie Rainwater, the preacher. Both from Spartanbug to GA possibly 1830. My gggrandfather (would be the father of James) was bushwhacked by Indians using tomyhawks and scarred his head all over, but did not kill him as they thought. I am not certain of his given name, but seems to me it was George. My father's brothers were named George, Zeb, Eibe, Elish, Dan and Reese. They all went west, except my father and Elish, just before and after the Civil War. Some to AL, AR, and TN. I am the only living child of my father, am 45 yrs old (this was written 6 Jan 1932). My father was 70 yr. when I was born. I am M. M. Rainwater of Rex. GA, half unc! le, his father, Joe, being my half brother. Lacey and M. M. are brothers. I am a Baptist minister." Attached to letter: "Lacy M. Rainwater, 51, d. Tues. at 3 Hoke St. Burial in CrestLawn Cemetery (in pencil - Jan 1, 1926 or 31)" Held at Presbyt. Church by Rev. J. F. Brown.
