I was in error in my previous message when I said there was a problem with Miles as the son of John and Mary (Fussell) Rainwater. I meant that there was a problem with Miles as grandson of John and Mary. Most workers have him as the grandson of John and Susannah Rainwater and great-grandson of John and Mary (Fussell) Rainwater. I hasten to add that no one has proved the parentage of James, father of Miles. However, there is the problem I alluded to with John and Mary as father of the James who was the father of Miles. Mary was born circa 1708 and would have been in her 60s when James father of Miles was born. That fits better with Mary as grandmother, not mother. James the father of Miles was still alive for the census in 1830, so he could not have been born circa 1736, as you have below. Although John and Mary did have a son James, presumably born circa 1736, that man is not the father of Miles but probably his great uncle. The more likely father is James son of John and Susannah and grandson of John and Mary, but that is not certain. Joseph B.
