I have seen his middle name written several ways. My information came from my uncle, James T. Kent, James Alston's grandson, who knew his grandfather well as they lived in the same block in DeQuincy, LA for many years. Margaret Moore posted a copy of the inscription on his tombstone on Jan. 4, 1999 to this site and said James Alleson Rainwater, 11 Jan 1852 21 Feb 1947. I have also seen it written Allison. I have enjoyed all of the information that has been posted on the Rainwaters. 3. I am looking for information on Mary Rainwaters who was married to John Jordan. I have a copy of a marriage document from Morgan Co., Ala. which states they were married 13Dec1837. According to the 1850 census she was born about 1822. My grandfather stated that his grandmother's maiden name was Tilda Rainwaters and that she was an orphan. One census lists her as Mary M., leading me to think her name may have been Mary Matilda. Was wondering if anyone might have something about her? David L. Hoffpauir

    2. Hi All My husbands line is Rainwater that is why I am on this group. so time I print letters I think he may be interested in for him. He ask me to answer one from Don Pruitt, here it is. Hello Don Re: the Folmer Charts - about 25 years ago I received the chart from a Rainwater in (I believe Dandridge Tenn. ) I have since forgotten his name it could have been Charles, he was about 86 at the time. The chart was about 2ft by 3ft. I am the one who sent Terrell Rainwater a copy he then added his line to the chart, that was in 1976. After studing the chart for more than 20 yrs I have come to the conclusion that some of it is correct but most was only guess work. I agree with Bob that Robert Rainwater was an adult in 1706, he might have been 20 to 30 yrs old, making him born ab 1676 to 1686. No one knows for sure when the lst John was born so if Robert got married ab 1706 John born 1707 was very possible. I do not think there has been much if any research done in the Hogan Creek area, if so I have not heard of it. My people came from the Mt Airy area N.C to Tenn then AR to MO to OR then to Washington. Gold is where you find it. If I were you I would go for it. Good Luck & Happy Hunting Lyle James Rainwater Please keep me informed Note from Me (Barjrain) The information in the LDS Ancestral file is incorrect on my husbands line. He shared some info with someone who was doing a booklet for a family reunion and there was a missing link beyond James b May 1, 1811 and the person changed birthdates so James could be connected back to John and Mary Fussell Lyle has the family bible of John Kiefer Rainwater and we have information from the cemetery (We were there) in Dayton Washington, where James was buried. Also don't give up on Robert Albert he had a death in the family and hasn't been very active in research lately. I hope I did this right so that everone can read it I haven't done this before.

    3. I obtained a copy of Folmar's Chart before he died. His treatment of Miles Rainwater is way off base. I tried to get it corrected, but his attitude was "this chart represents my best judgment of these lines." There is no reason not to hypothesize about lines, even in print, but be sure to put question marks so other people will know that it is an unproved suggestion, nothing more. Joseph B. 3. I've noticed several of you refer to "Folmar's Chart" and Webber's book and using the information in them to prove something. There are a lot of mistakes in both of them and should be used as a guideline only!!!. If your line ties into someone in Webber's book- prove the information yourself. Folmar had so many children with the wrong parents. He did the work himself and if he liked the information and it fit what he was working on, that's where it went. He lived in Austin, Tex when he was doing his research, and he was already deceased when I called him to give him some information; So I spoke to his widow and she wasn't interested, even though it was her line. Just because something is written in a family book doesn't mean it's gospel. It's only as good as the amount of research and documentation that goes into it. Again, I hope I don't make anyone mad, but I taught genealogy for 5 years, and I stressed documentation. Good Luck. Glidie

    1. [RAINWATER-L] Richard and Delilah Rainwater Phillips Family
    2. If you trace your Rainwater line back to the Solomon and Ruth Felton Rainwater issues, then you might want to consider a book published in 1983 by Eloise Groover Lovell who lived in Hermitage, TN which she titled the "RICHARD PHILLIPS FAMILY". This book is in many large libraries and archives. Richard and Delilah moved first to Gwinnett Co, GA and eventually to Forsyth Co, GA and he founded Haw Creek Baptist Church in 1841. It is still active but stands in danger of being swallowed by the Atlanta monolithic gulp. This book lists many associated families such as Echols, Major, Edmondson. Indeed, Junior Samples of "Hee Haw" fame was a decendant of Solomon Rainwater. Bet none of you folks knew that huh??? Just thought you might like to know about that book. As I have told Glidie, my wife and I both trace ancestry back to Rainwater, she thru James and me thru John, Jr. Mrs Lovell is now desceased but the book is a well researched effort. Keep up the searchin' !!!! Don Pruitt
