Occured to me that I haven't sent any queries about the Sevier Co., Tennessee Rainwaters. My grandmother was Mary Catherine Rainwater, daughter of Jacob C., son of James. They eventually migrated to Washington State where she met my grandfather, D. B. Pettijohn. Woud like to hear from anyone descended from the Sevier Co. Rainwaters. I learned a great deal from the 1850 Census, and eventually compiled two families which I call my "South Carolina Orphans" (Rainwaters born in that state according to the Census, with no proof of parentage) and my "North Carolina Orphans". SOUTH CAROLINA: (added information in parenthesis) NAME BORN MARRIED SPOUSE DIED James Rainwater ca 1795 bef 1826 Mary (spoken of in family histories as "Jimmy the Preacher" - 1860, lived with Nancy A., 49. I just finished responding to a question posted to the Oklahoma board on the AOL Genealogy Forum and thought some of you might find the information useful. The question concerned where to go to find information about someone who served time in an Oklahoma prison early in this century. I have seen this question on various forums in the past and the answer is much simpler than most believe. All states have a Department of Corrections, Department of Prisons or similar agency that in effect operates all of the state's prisons. These departments maintain records that go back for years. Here in Oklahoma the records go back to the first person sentenced to prison after statehood in 1907, our prisoner #1. Many of the older states may not have not have records of all inmates who ever served time in their prisons, but they will have records going back many years. The records people at our administrative offices receive several information requests each month from people doing genealogical research. Generally, if we have information on the person we provide it at no cost to family members doing research. In Oklahoma we are restricted by law as to the information that can be released on a living individual, but basic information on crime, sentence, time period, etc. can all be released. If you make a request to a state corrections department, be sure to furnish as much data to identify the person as possible. For common names it is not unusual for us to have more than one person with the same name and birth date and of the same race. The county the person was tried and convicted in can often make a difference in finding the right person. If you are seeking information on someone who served time in Oklahoma Prisons, send me their name, date of birth, race, dates of incarceration, county of conviction, etc. and I'll ask our records people to research it for you. My e-mail address at work is acronr@doc.state.ok.us Ron Recer Edmond, OK

A downline Rainwater-related lineage that did not make the list. It has been posted in it's entirety. Bob Schimmel ------- Forwarded Message Follows ------- From: "Joseph Senn" <COYOTE@vtc.net> Subject: death of John Whitaker Date sent: Mon, 18 Jan 1999 Hi, I am Rachel Sue. Lineage: Rainwater > Lewallen > Brown > Whitaker. John Raymond Whitaker; date of birth - July 8th, 1925 in Protem, Mo., Moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1930, died Jan. 16, 1999 in Grove, Okla. John's deceased parents are James A. Whitaker, & Purna mae Brown Whitaker. Living siblings, Fred (Rae) Phx, James A. (Jay & Marriane) Bullhead City, Ernest (Carol) Phx, Duaine (Pat) Denton, Texas, Bobby Gene (Diane) Gilbert, Rachel (Joe) Senn - Pearce / Sunsites, Arizona. He had two deceased sisters, Verde Mae Bird (Richard), and, Betty Jo Tidey (Eddy). Former Spouse, Reba Kelly. John's children: Eunice W. Milliron, Jon Whitaker. Present Spouse - Jean Whitaker. John's step children: Steve, Barbara and April. He was a champion roller skater, guitar player, singer / song writer, an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to go camping. He loved to tell jokes. As a young man he went in the Navy from living on a ranch in Kyrene - a suberb of Tempe, Arizona where he rode horses, milked cows and other ranch hand duties. John's War record of ww11. He was in the Navy and was an electrican's mate. He was stationed in New Caldonia off Austrailia. Family members report he was on a mine sweeper. He was a third class petty officer. He was wounded in the leg, however the exact details are not known. When he lived in Scottsdale, Arizona, he was envolved with that communities Western Days for many years. He formed the first boy scout troop at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School in Scottsdale. He tried truck driving and T.V. repair, however he mainly built homes in the Phx area during the 25 years he lived there and worked as a a block mason and a masonry contractor. Even though he was always busy working, serving in his community, being a Father and Husband, he still had time to help his widowed Mother and younger siblings. He thoroughly enjoyed going to the family land, 'The Golden Hawk' at Lake Texoma, Texas where he would play his latest tunes for his adoring fans, his family, at the reunions held on the land each summer. He loved the land and was very instrumental in it's dedication to the family, as a permanent gathering place for all family members, including those who still honor their Metis (Mixed Cherokee) blood. He was raised to honor all ways and this he did. He lives in our hearts, our memories and, at 'The Hawk' this June, we (his family) will play his music and sing to him our thank yous for sharing his time with us while he could and we will plant a tree in his honor.. For all of this we remember John. For always making us smile with his wit, with his wisdom, with his words. We will honor him at every family gathering at 'the Hawk'. ...Dear sweet John, rest in Peace, your work is done. Our Lives are so short, we are all born, and we all die. For us, pertaining to John Whitaker, it is that dash between 'July 8th, 1925 - Jan 16, 1999' that is so important. That dash was what he gave to us. It was Himself. John was cremated, and his earthly self is at home in the Grand Lake of the Cherokees he loved so much. Blessed are the Beaver's who live in that lake for now they have help from the Golden Hawk, from 'The Beaver' himself, Tribal Chief of tribe number two: John Whitaker.
I agree with Leonard regarding use of the page. I am active in many political causes and appreciate and respect anybody who is willing to "take a stand". However, I feel these pages are not the place to present causes. Thanks, Dan Rainwater

I have been told that Lillian Lavinie Rainwater was the daughter of Daniel Boone Rainwater and his wife Martha Quillen. I have also been told that Lillian Lavinie Rainwater was Indian. She was born 6 March 1879 in Birmingham. AL and was married on 18 July 1894 to Henry Overton Cagle, as his 4th wife. This is all I know about this Rainwatr family. Can anyone add to it, or refute it, or suggest further research? Thanks for any help or suggestions. Emma Gene Gentry Emma Gene (Seale) Gentry <hgentry@inetport.com> Austin, Texas
Aaron and Polly bn NC ,both age 30-40 1830 Todd Co.,Ky (GS#0007820-pg 379) His will admitted for probate 15 Mar 1849 (GS#0364611-Bk H pg 72) Logan Co., Ky. He had a land warrant for 100 acres on West Clifty Cr.Todd Co.,Ky which was surveyed 1 Jun 1826. (Bk T pg 409) If Aaron was in Tenn when the 3 oldest were bn, he would almost have to have been in Montgomery Co. The only Rainwater's there at that time was a William and a Nancy Rainwater.Since the earliest available census for Tenn is the 1820, there's no way to tell for sure. There is Robert Rainwater in Stewart Co., which is right next to Montgomery Co also. William is 45 and over with 1female under 10 and 1 female 26-45. Robert has 2 males 10-16 and 1female under 10, plus himself and Mournin (his wife) He's 45 and over and shes 26-45.Nancy has 1 male under 10;1 female under 10;2 females 10-16 and herself 26-45. The family seemed to stay around Logan Co., for awhile but eventually Polly moved to Hopkins Co.,Ky with her daughter Mariah A and her husband,Robert Curtis. John Harrison Stinson was the son of Archibald Stinson and Tempy Lassiter. The Stinson's were out of Bledsoe Co.,Tn.He and Caroline md 20 May 1842. Elizabeth md Samuel Turner 12 Dec 1850. James Henry md 4 Jun 1844 to Adeline E. Jackson. All Logan Co.,Ky. That's about all I have on Aaron Glidie

He farmed in Logan and Todd counties in the commonwealth of Kentucky from a land grant in 1826 until his death sometime around 1850.He and his wife Polly had at least ten children: Caroline(1820) married to John Stinson James (1822) married Adalena Jackson Parks (1824) Phoebe (1826) married William Crouch Elizabeth(1828) married Samuel Turner William (1830) Mariah (1832) Mary Jane(1836) Isabella (1839) Susan (1842) Of course the dates are my best approximation and could be off a little. The three oldest children were born in Tennessee, but I do not know in which county to look . I would appreciate any information you may have run across on Aaron or any of the family members.I can't seem to fit him into the family tree puzzle and would love to find another lead! Pertaining to Hal Irving's message (below). He mentioned Silas Mercer Rainwater. From what I have been able to determine, Silas lived in Lamar/Fayette/Marion counties Alabama the rest of his life. The list of his children seems rather elusive. Anyone have a list of them to share ? My file identifies his wife as Nancy Miles but expect that was typo error.....Miles was ordained a Baptist Minister at the Cedar Shoal Church in 1817. He owned several hundred acres along Cedar Shoal Creek. He and wife had seven children (record says): Mary; Miles; Milly; Vashti; Mariah; Silas Mercer; and Jane Amanda. Around 1835 Miles' widow, Nancy moved with her children to Fayette Co., AL This Miles was bro to my William Rainwater 3 Jan 1774 Surry Co NC to Jan 1825 Pulaski Co KY. Other siblings were: Solomon Rainwater 1765-1824 Elizabeth Rainwater 1769-1850 William Rainwater 1774-1825 Abraham Rainwater 1784-? John Rainwater dates? Occassionally a non-subscriber will send a message to the list, but the Rootsweb computer re-routes the non-subscriber's message to me, the listowner. Rootsweb requires senders of messages to become subscribers in order to stop the hundreds of commerical SPAM advertisements which used to come from non-subscribers. After Rootsweb blocked the spammers, they tried to get around that requirement and started subscribing to all the various lists on Rootsweb. Rootsweb then had to install special software to filter out the mass- sendings of SPAM messages even if coming from a subscriber. Sounds very complicated -- and it is -- and please don't asked me how the software knows what is spam and what isn't -- I don't know -- but it's not for any of us to worry about. I have said all this so you all might understand a little bit about Rootsweb problems and their system for handling unwanted mailings. You will sometimes see me forwarding non-subscriber messages to the list as I just did for JARMGIRL3@aol.com. The purpose of the Rainwater list is to further research on the name. Obviously she is not sending spam, so I have let her messages come on through to the list. I also encouraged her to join our interesting little group so she could see replies. ALSO, another question has come up. ALL Rootsweb command messages such as SUBSCRIBE or UNSUBSCRIBE should be sent to rainwaterr-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com ALL messages are sent to rainwater-L@roostweb.com All the Rootsweb lists are standardized, that is, subscribe and unsubscribe instructions are the same for all lists. To subscribe or unsubscribe to the Rainwater list, address the message to rainwater-L-request@rootsweb.com To send messages, address them to rainwater-L@rootsweb.com Regards, Bob Schimmel Listowner

Other family members were 1 male aged 18-26, 1 male 10-16, 3 males under 10, 2 females 16-26 and 2 females under age 10. How does this Benjamin relate to the John Rainwater/Mary Fussell lineage?
