    3. I am seeking information of any kind on my great great grandmother, Nancy Jane Rainwater (buried in Claremore, OK). She was born in Kentucky circa 1867, married Joseph Jasper King who was born circa 1865 in Tennessee. They had several children: Dora King Mary Missouri King (born 8/3/1891 in Warm Springs, AR) married Cass M. Snyder about 1908; Mary died 8/30/1974 in Shawnee, OK where she is buried. (married several times after divorcing Cass) They had several children: Eldon Eugene (my grandfather) married Fannie Nina Viola Skaggs, Arthur, Louis, Dora Snyder married a Hoover, Nancy Cordelia [married Carl Woods & had one son, Gene, who died at age 7 from meningitis; he was born in 1929], and a half brother to these children from Cass' first marriage, Bob Snyder. [Mary Missouri King was my great grandmother] Cora King At least one son I have attempted to tie my Nancy to any of the published lineages and have not been successful. If anyone can offer a lead, I would be most appreciative. Thanks, Johnna

    2. Hey Dan, There seems to be a little conflict. You're saying that my gggftr Zebulon Rainwater was born in GA in 1830 while most evidence points to him having been born in Spartenburg, SC in 1823. I am curious as to the source of your information? By the way, I see my ggmtr's name spelled on here as Margaret Jane (Scarber) Rainwater, wife of James Samuel, son of Zebulon. She appeared in two census, once as Marget and once as Margaret. The family story is that her name was Marget, not Margaret and that name, Marget, is what is on her head stone in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Franklin County, AR. I'd be happy to provide a .jpg of that for anyone who would care to see it. In fact, I have, I think, .jpg's of all the Rainwater headstones in Mt. Hope Cemetery along with pics of the Mt. Hope Church where the Cemetery is located. I'd be happy to post those .jpgs here so they could be downloaded if that would be desirable. There are a lot of unmarked graves in Mt. Hope Cemetery and there is not a reliable list of who is buried there. Franklin County was split in half during the Civil War and the Mt. Hope Cemetery lies very near the north-south dividing line and has become a sort of step-child. There were two county seats established during the war, one in Ozark for the southern part and in Charleston for the northern part. The Arkansas River was the dividing line right in through there. The cemetery lies fairly close to the line and neither county seat attempts to keep a very accurate list. The county seat in Charleston should have the list but the most recent list they have is dated in 1976 and it shows no Essmans buried there in spite of the fact that the sign over the entrance of the cemetery says it is the Essman-Rainwater Cemetery. My ggftr James David Essman and his wife Rachel are there, as are my gftr William Clarence Essman and his wife Sarah Alice Rain- water, "Allie," as she was called, along with several other Essmans. The "bad blood" is so deep still that the two county seats do not talk with each other. They're still fighting a cold war there. If it weren't so sad, it would be amusing. Zebulon, who was a Methodist minister, was pastor of the Mt. Hope Church as was his grandson Zeb, Allie's brother, who married my gftr's sister, Ethel Beatrice Essman. The younger Zeb was the child of James Samuel and Marget Jane, as was my gmtr Allie. All of the folks I mention here are buried in the Cemetery there at Mt. Hope. Gene Essman

    3. Melissa, I noticed that you had a response from Dan Bruce stating that your Zebulon is a descendent of James the Blacksmith. I am also a direct descendent of James the Blacksmith. Your Zebulon was born in Campbell Co, GA. (which is now the southern part of Fulton Co, GA.) I was raised in the area that was Campbell Co and currently live within 20 miles of that area. The Rainwater family moved to this area from SC in the 1830's. I hope to hear more from you. Regards, Dan Rainwater Jonesboro, GA melissa muylaert wrote: > My name is Melissa (Rainwater) Muylaert. Or Uncle?? >Sorry don't mean to be trouble just confused at times....... Hi Hal - No trouble - I'm happy to help. She is called Patty in the family Bible. She is called Patsy in William's will and the 1830 and 1840 census records. She is called Marty in the 1826 marriage record of her son James. In the 1841 marriage record of her daughter Patsy to Tillman Davenport, Martha Rainwater is identified as the bride's mother, Abraham Rainwater as surety. In the 1843 marriage record of her daughter Elizabeth to Isaac Roberts, Patsy Rainwater is identified as the bride's mother, Abraham Rainwater as surety. Based on this evidence, and the fact that Patsy is frequently used as a nickname in the 19th century for Martha (as Polly is for Mary and Ann for Nancy), my conclusion is that her given name was Martha, but she was generally called Patsy. I didn't mean to imply that Abraham conducted the marriage, just that he was mentioned in the marriage records. I believe this to be her brother, because the theoretical uncle was not living in Pulaski Co. in the 1840 census. Best, Susan

    1. [RAINWATER-L] Moses - Johnston Co., NC 1787
    2. Annie
    3. Does anyone know the names of Moses' children? He appears on the 1787 NC state census with 1 male 21-60; 6 males under 21 or over 60; 4 females of all ages and no slaves. Quoting Robert Albert (p.8 July 1995 Rainwater Researcher) "this Rainwater has obviously been married for some time as he has 9 children....in 1787 Moses apprentices Williams Rainwater age 13 to Mr. Robert Burch. It is highly likely that he was apprenticing his own son....named after his father. Moses also witnessed the will of Robert Burch in 1788." If we knew more about this Moses, he could possibly provide a lot of missing links. Annie Johnston is just a few counties SE of Surry and Surry isn't far from Sevier Co., TN.

What we know of Abraham >was that he came to Pulaski County KY in 1813 with his family......but little >do we know after that other than he witnessed his Father's will in >1825.... It appears to me that there are two Abraham Rainwaters. First there's the one who shows up in the Pulaski Co., KY 1810 census as a male age 26-45. I have no idea who he connects to. I recall noticing in the index that he had moved to another county by 1820, but I don't recall which one because I wasn't actually looking for him. The other Abraham Rainwater is the son of William and Patsy Rainwater, born 3 April 1808 according to their family Bible (copies are available - just send me a physical mailing address). He married Anna McLaughlin on 16 Apr 1828 in Russell Co., KY [Russell Co., KY Marriage Certificates, Book 1, 1826-1954, Kentucky Ancestors, Vol 2, Mrs. Donald E. Jordan]. This family is listed in the 1830-1850 census in Pulaski Co., in the 1860 census in Lawrence Co., IN. Both died in Brown Co., IN prior to 1875 where they were members of the White River Association of the Primitive Baptist Church. This church kept it's own death records and their deaths are recorded in them [Indiana Source Book, Vol. 3, Willard Heiss]. Other sightings of Abraham are the witnessing of his father's will, as you rightly mention, and his consenting to two of his sisters' marriages. Susan Chance-Rainwater

    1. [RAINWATER-L] LDS archives on the internet

    3. The Ancestral file and IGI in the LDS (familysearch.org) archives are huge and can supply lots of clues because you can bring up AREAS of search all over the world. But just remember that the information therein is only as good as the people who submitted it. Often they have NOT been thorough researchers, so consequently you need to supplement what you find there, with research of your own. It is a great tool, but please don't believe every family connection you find. Assumptions have often been the easy path. Annie

    3. Hi All, and welcome Rebecca to the Rainwater gang........and interesting query gets interesting answers........ In my data base I have an Elisha Gentry Rainwater...possibly carrying the Gentry name forward, but this fella was born in 1802 in Surry Co., NC, the son of Solomon Rainwater and wife ?.............He moved to GA in 1812 with parents, he married 1820 with 5 child from union, married again in 1848 to his 1st wife Cousin....5 children also........some of the children to Texas in 1840.....I didn't follow further as unlikely connection except for Gentry name suddenly appearing......... Now, I haven't found any solid data re David Gentry or Stanton Rainwater, but did find a penciled note from years past listing burials in Pulaski County KY....this note indicates burial sites for a D.A. Rainwater 29 Sept 1845-1 Dec 1891; and a P.M. Rainwater, 1 May 1853- 11 June 1913. Sites are side by side in the Tarter-Huson (maybe Hudson) Cemetery located 1 mile past Faubush, Pulaski, KY Postoffice (turn left).......Interesting thing is note says P.M. Rainwater is son of Stanton Rainwater and wife Eva Tarter. So perhaps both are sons of Stanton Rainwater/Eva Tarter.......Years ago when researching these cemeteries I did not know about or have time to do more than write down those burials identified as Rainwater.....If I had had several weeks I could have Id'ed the connecting families and jotted down all the connecting burials......There are a number of "family" burial plots in Pulaski and Casey co's. I saw a "Tilmon-Tarter Cemetery" located at Tickridge, KY on the George Weddle (another connection) Farm but did not copy it's resident's names..perhaps Stanton/Eva is there......... Now where did this family come from.....? Was WVA a distination rather than an origin? If I had to guess, I would suspect that perhaps they are of the Abraham Rainwater line..Abraham was born early 1800's (one says 1802, another says 1808) a son of William 1774-1825 who married Patsy Hodge......Abraham's wife's name may have been Ann ?...........Solomon above was older brother of this William..Interesting huh? What we know of Abraham was tha he came to Pulaski County KY in 1813 with his family......but little do we know after that other than he witnessed his Father's will in 1825....Some confusion exists as "The Webber Genealogy" of 1980 includes a comment about an Abraham 1784-? ( brother to William and Solomon) and an Abraham , son of this William.......The 1784 Abraham was said to have 5 children of whom only one, Gideon, is known..... Several suggestions: One, contact, Mary Jo Marple, PO Box 485, Liberty, KY. She does research for fee and has access to several Rainwater Family History's belonging to the Casey Co Library or arrange to Purchase History's from the Library........You might also look at the surname file at UKY .....you can get 25 names at a time, so query Rainwater first, look at 25th name i.e. Don Rainwater and start new search with Don Rainwater for next 25 names and so on..........Good luck, I will ponder this family and see if I may have more in paper format or FTM........ 3. Susan, I hate to tell you this-but- there is no such thing as a Southern and Northern Rainwater bunch. These Rainwater families went all over-north and south. The Ky branch came down into Tn,Ark Tex and Okla. The extreme south bunch went up into Ky,Tn Mo Ark Tx Okla. They were a very mobile bunch of people. My own line came out of Ky into Jackson Co.,Ga-enlisted in War of 1812-discharged at Pass Christian,Ms and settled in Ala. I've followed whole families that moved across vast spaces. Their children moved the same way when they started having families. I've tried your web site and cannot access it. I keep getting an "invalid site" message.
