    3. Hi Joe, Sorry I've been so long answering, but have been really, really busy. Our daughter,Pam, in SL is expecting twins and the Dr put her on cmplete bed rest,so we brought our 3 year old grand-son down here with us for 3 weeks. After we took him back,it was almost the 4th of Jul. On the evening of the 4th we drove into Price (30 miles away) to watch the fireworks at the fairgrounds. when we returned home, we found that our 13 year old Collie had fallen down stairs. We worked with her for almost all week because she couldn't keep her balance and had to be carried up and down stairs, she wouldn't eat and kept getting weaker. We had almost decided to have her put to sleep, but decided to try one more time. We took her to the vet again, and he gave her a shot of steroids and put her on a pill for her appetite, and she's slowly improving. She still gets dizzy and falls down if she tries to shake her head but I think she's going to make it. At least a little longer, anyway. As far as I can tell, I think you've got the Miles' correct. As for who Benjamin's father is-a lot of people would like to know. However,I think he was a son of John but not Susannah as his mother.I'll have to go back through my file on John and also Benjamin's and see if there's a clue any where. Will let you know. Glidie -----Original Message----- From: Joseph B. I still need to know how Benjamin >fits in. I stuck that group at the bottom. > > Joe > > >> The following is a list of all the men named Miles Rainwater who were born >>before 1900. They all go back to four people born around 1800 who named >>sons Miles Rainwater: Miles Rainwater (1787-1826), James Rainwater the >>blacksmith, >>James Rainwater the preacher, and William Rainwater (1774-1825). Admitting >>the unlikelihood that both Jameses had the same father, I separated out the >>preacher in my first list. Dan Bruce, however, thinks, with some reason, >>that the preacher, rather than the blacksmith, was the brother of the first >>Miles. I still think the reverse, particularly because Miles's estate >>contained some unusual >>blacksmith-related items for a preacher to have (Miles also was a >minister, and >>James the preacher followed him in his church). Another reason is that the >>church records say that Miles was followed in the church by his cousin, not >>his brother. However, the same records gave Miles the wrong wife, so what >>can we believe? >> >> It would be nice if all the Miles Rainwaters descended from James >>Rainwater (c.1770-c.1835) and his wife Nancy Miles (c.1775-c.1847), as >>Nancy's last name appears to be the ultimate source of this first name. >>There were NO people named Miles in the Rainwater family prior to the >>marriage of James with Nancy Miles. However, both the James Rainwaters >>named sons Miles, and we have concluded that they were not brothers. At >>worst, one line of Mileses was named after an uncle-nephew relationship >>rather than father-son. Consequently, I am giving separate numbers to each >>of these four Miles progenitors. Their sons are designated by a number and >>a letter (1a), the next generation by a number, a letter, and a number >>(1a1), and so on. >> >> There are three isolated Miles Rainwaters. (1) Robert-William-James >>(1790-1871, m. Catherine McCall)-Milas W. (1816-1895, m. (1) Martha >>Profitt, (2) Elizabeth Dicky)-Miles Murphy (1864-1891, m. Hannay Rebecca >>Dandridge McAndrew). It is clear that this Miles drew his name from his >>father Milas and presumably had nothing to do with the Nancy Miles source. >>I am not sure of the accuracy of this line back to Robert. (2) >>Robert-John-John-John-William-Wilkes Berrywine-Miles Avery (1864-1925). >>This man occurs later, and the source of his name may be from distant >>cousins and ultimately Nancy Miles, or from an entirely unrelated source. >>Again, he does not seem to have relevance to the Nancy Miles source. >>Moreover, the name may be in error, as he is listed as Millidge A. >>Rainwater on the 1870 census but Miles in 1880. The name Miles may thus >>have been an elision or nickname. (3) The Stewart Co., TN, census of 1860 >>lists a John H. Rainwater (b. NC c.1804), wife Frances (Bird). Although >>some people list a son Miles Rainwater (b. c. 1846 for this couple, the >>name apparently is in error, as Wiley C.Rainwater, not Miles, was the son. >>We can disregard this group. >> >> Here then are the four men and their Miles descendants. I have tried desperately to find information about my grandfather's side of the family only to have gone as far as his parents. I know that his parent's names are Franklin William Rainwater and Carrie Ann Wheeler and that those two got married in 1920 on September 5 in Missouri. Somehow my grandfather ended up here in Michigan but that is all that I know. If you know of any information about them please help me. Sincerely, Julie Ann Swidwinski Jwlsngms@aol.com

    3. Hi, I was looking through my photos and ran across one of a Jennie Rainwater, in 1918, maybe in Sallisaw, OK, I'm not sure as there isn't a location written on the back. It is a photo of my granny, Leila Eskew, her sister Rowena, and brother Elbert, and 3 friends. Elbert Eskew has a tag on his jacket, to go to WW1, so they may be at the train station. The other 3 are Eva Taylor, Jennie Rainwater and Frank Stempson. All appear to be in their teens, though it says Elbert was 20. I assume Jennie was a cousin, but don't know who's family she belongs to. If someone has Jennie, or the others in their family, I will be happy to send a copy of the photo. He married Nellie Towell who was born in Ripley County, MO. He had brothers named: Bryant, Arthur, Larkin & Burdett. He had two sisters: Clara & Minnie. I believe that his father's name was Fisher and his mother's name was Anna Butler. (Info from a great lady named Glidie!) Glidie also mentioned that Fisher's father was John P. 1. [RAINWATER-L] Lewallens & Rainwaters
    2. Hello- I am researching an ancestor (who is a Rainwater according to family tradition) who married John Lewallen (b. 1811 in North Carolina). She is supposed to be the sister of Matthew Rainwater (m. Mahalia “Hallie” Jane Snapp). Since I can't find out anything on my ancestor, I thought maybe I could back into some information. So, I am trying Matthew. Matthew and Hallie had several children who married Lewallens. Can anyone tell me anything about these Lewallens? They are: Moses Alexander Lewallen, m. Margaret Elizabeth Rainwater 10/25/1856. Columbus Lewellen, m. Mary Evaline Rainwater James B. Lewellen, m. Susan Adeline Rainwater 10/6/1881 Thanks for any help. Eunice
