Now David Fanning, now just bare with me a minute, was an American Loyalist and Guerrilla fighter born in Beech Swamp, Amelia Co.,Virgina abt. 1755. After being robbed by some men calling Themselves Patriots (Whigs), Fanning joined the Loyalist side in the American Revolution in 1775 and gathered a small band of guerillas for "hit and run" expeditions against the Patriots of NC. He gained a reputation for extreme cruelty. In July 1781 he was made a colonel of milita by the British in NC. next p.4 . But now must go to bed as my wife has me redoing this house.
