    3. Right on Margie, and others, I'm stuck at my great grandmothers birth at 1795!!! I can't find her parents to save me. Martha (Patsey) Rains b. 1795 Rando;ph Co. N.C. m. Henry Leonard abt. 1810 in R.C., N.C. migrated to Indiana in 1829, and then on to Iowa in 1850. They had 12 children. Her siblings were John, Lewellen, Susannah and Mary (Polly). Any information welcomed!! I live in Alabama too. Or anywhere near it. I'm in Alabama and I've talked with four or five fellow Alabama Rains. They're all STUCK at anywhere from 1770-1800 in South Carolina. My Rowland Raines / Rains was born their in 1784, served in the War of 1812. I found 5 Rains listed in Greenville, SC, including a Rowland in 1830, but the age is off 20 years. Alot of the Rains left no will in S.C. I think his father is John Rains since he named his first son that but I've looked through the Archives for a will at no avail. There are two Johns the right age in SC who had about 20 kids between them, but no wills have been found. So I'll just have to be happy with Rowland Raines 1784-1777. My Rains line settled in Tucaloosa, Alabama. There's a "Rainsville" in Alabama named after Will Rains, son of Rev Thomas Rains. Will opened a store there in 1902 and it was first called Rains Crossroads. 5000 people live there today. Not sure if or how I might be related to them though. Rowland shot General Pakenham at the Battle of New Orleans and captured his sword. He was promoted 4 days later by Andrew Jackson to Corporal and put on General Jacksons Escort. Just two months earlier Rowland had been in the Brig for beating a Corporal. He was found not guilty. Rowland named one of his sons Andrew Jackson Rains. His son John lived through the Civil War but was wounded by Shermans Troops. Rowlands second son Elijah was killed in Tenneesee by Yankees and recieved the Confederate Medal of Honor for the Batle of Mission Ridge.
